We visited on the afternoon of St. Patrick's day. We expected busy and were patient. The place was already hopping but not yet packed. There was open seating in the bar and outside (not anything immediately available but people did rotate through during our wait), but we wanted to be seated in an all ages dining room inside. We were told 20-30 minutes for a table and then waited 50. When the one hostess that was apparently also responsible for cleaning off the tables... (it was St. Patrick's day? Why just the one?) took us upstairs to our table, we were so confused to find an entirely empty dining room. Of course it's possible that it just happened to clear out all at the same time, but that seemed unlikely. It was almost as if we hadn't been seated until someone came in for their shift or something. We were seated and quickly in succession, several more parties were seated in the same dining room. Food was decent. Really nothing spectacular. Pub fries weren't worth the calories. We ordered drinks which came in little plastic cups. Now, I'm SURE that this is a St. Patty's day pub survival thing...no way they could use just glasses to serve everyone that shows up, but we were seated inside, and ordered a meal. Someone in our party ordered a pricey beer and it came in a little plastic cup. It should have been in a glass. Period. Our waitress was very sweet and did check in with us regularly. The timing of our meal was what you'd expect on a busy day, so thankful that we didn't wait for food as long as we waited to sit down. Location is very fun and...
Read moreI love Irish pubs. However, this chain/location has become over priced and bland/lazy.
Food portions vs. Price disparagance. Prices too high for low amount of protein or low amount of flavors and quality or preparation. It USED to be great.
Examples: Beef stroganoff with 6 bites of meat for $12, a sauce that tastes like flour, and almost no spices, plate full of egg noodles and not enough sauce to cover it all. Basically $12 for flavored egg noodles. Sent back for a bowl of chili. Much better bang for your buck for protein: cup $5. Bowl $7.50.
Burgers with 8 oz. (1/2 lb.) of meat $12 - $16. For 8 oz. of meat, I could get a decent to great steak for $8 to $15. No matter how much meat you use, burgers are usually priced half the price of a steak.
Potato and leek soup was "deconstructed" (not mentioned in the menu description) , and not blended at all. Got cup with two huge chunks of potato that filled the whole cup: too big for one bite. I had to chop it up into bite sized pieces in (tiny) cup: huge challenge to prep my soup. Lol. Thought about asking for a stick blender. :-) if you're going to do coarsely chopped potato, in a clear broth, you should describe it on the menu as such. "POTATO Leek $4.00 McNellie’s version of an Irish classic Cup: $4 / Bowl: $6"
The drinks maybe good here but if you're looking to eat, until they stop trying to take advantage of drunk people's pocketbooks, and learn how to use seasonings, and give protein sized portions and amazing taste that matches their prices, I would give...
Read moreGreat place, but ... I've had some OK burgers here and decent fish and chips. First, the service. I sat down and said hello to the bartender. He said nothing. A minute later he brought a menu and asked if I knew what I wanted. I placed my order. My food was brought out. I ate. Noone said a word to me. When I pushed my plate forward, the bartender collected it and dropped off my bill. Still not a word said. I paid my bill, no words exchanged. Not thank you, no how was everything, nothing. Today I tried the BLT that was on special and the parmesan fries. The fries seem to have sat a while. The cheese just fell off in a solid chunk when picking up a fry, none of it stuck to them and they weren't very hot. The real sad part is the BLT. Very fatty, chewy bacon but only in the middle bites of the sandwich. Half the bread could be removed without touching any bacon. Tomato was so thin and low quality it wasnt noticeable, the piece seen in the cut sandwich was the onoy tomato on that half, basically a scrap of tomato. The pepper mayo excited me, but was near liquid its so runny and leaves nothing to coat the bread or add flavor. The BLT is basically buttered toast with undercooked bacon and some...
