OKC has many places to get sushi. I've eaten at many and can say with most confidence good sushi is everywhere in OKC - except for here. I've had sushi all across the country and never have I have had a complaint or left an establishment more disappointed than I did with my brief experience here. With an empty restaurant, after waiting for 10 minutes, a server finally acknowledged me and brought me a menu and a glass of water. I wouldn't see him for another five minutes. I ordered the shrimp spring rolls (love peanut sauce!). Beautiful presentation upon arrival. The peanut sauce, however, was more like a soup. It was extremely watered down. The spring roll was poorly made. After one bite, immediately fell apart. It was hard to dip the roll into the peanut soup. By the end I didn't eat the last few bites of the roll because my soup was filled with my spring rolls that fell apart. Spring roll stew. On top of that, the shrimp tasted quite fishy. A friend of mine, long time ago embarked some priceless wisdom on me. She said, if seafood ever tastes like dirty seafood - don't eat it. It's probably bad and will make you sick. I didn't head her words once, while in New Orleans and I did get, very very sick that night. That said, the shrimp to my spring roll that that questionable taste and smell. I hesitated, but decided to press forward knowing from personal experience that sometimes when shrimp isn't cleaned properly it can smell and taste like that. Still, I wasn't "excited" about what was going into my mouth.
Then came the rolls, I ordered three. Things took so long and I was on something of a time crunch so I asked for my check and a to-go box. Having a little time, I took a few bites and I'm glad I did. The sushi - all of it had that pungent fishy taste. Now, I understand it's seafood, but sushi normally has a wonderful, complex and will composed flavor to it. All I could taste was seafood. In addition, the rice was poorly made - like mush. The rolls had no texture. It was all soft and gummy to texture. Nothing remarkable about them. I had a couple bites of each roll hoping it was just me. I wanted to like it. I was craving sushi and was getting more and more sad that THIS was not the experience I wanted to have. I didn't want to, but having spent nearly $50 I knew if I took it home I wouldn't eat it. I was already having to force myself to eat it while at the restaurant.
So, I called the manager over. He argued with me! He'd ask me what was wrong with it, I'd tell him - then he argued with me! He told me he couldn't do anything about it because food costs were high and they made it for me and I already had a few bites. OF COURSE I HAD A FEW BITES! Why would I complain without eating it? 90% of my plate was still enacted and untouched. I already PAID for my food. I had to-go boxes because I wanted to take it home. For me, already running late to stop a manager and make a complaint in itself means something is not right! He kept saying, "We've sold tons of these today and no one has complained." To which I said, "that might be true, but I'm complaining so quit saying no one has complained."
I don't know if their seafood is poor quality, if it wasn't cleaned properly, if their equipment wasn't cleaned properly, or if their food product was starting to expire - but it was flat out gross. In the end, after arguing with him, the manager did give refund 50% of my ticket. I took it surprised he compromised at all. As soon as he handed me back my card, I left everything as it was. I'm incredibly disappointed by the food quality, the managers customer service skills, the staff's attention to detail and promptness, and the overall experience. I gave this a 2 star rating because the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. I ended up going to "Tropical Smoothie" for dinner. It was down the road, but I'll never come back here and suggest everyone go find...
Read moreThe ambience is very nice and the dining areas uniquely separated. The staff was nice but a bit delayed once we were seated. The prices are reasonable and the menu had a variety of options. The calamari was not very flavorful, and the bulgogi hot pot wasn’t seasoned well. The spicy basil noodles and the variety sushi rolls we tried were delicious though. Might return for the sushi.
1/29/21 edit—rating gone from a 4 to 1 star. Stopped by for dinner and had a wait to be seated which wouldn’t have been bad if staff members didn’t walk by and ignore us at the door several times. Ordered the Singapore noodle hotpot, a couple of sushi rolls and 2 spicy scallop hand rolls. The service was slow and we had to ask for utensils. The hotpot and the sushi rolls were very good. The hand rolls were pretty horrible—they were falling apart, had shredded scallops, and tasted like it was covered in Tabasco. When we got the check the hand rolls were listed as something else and asked about it, I was told that the hand rolls are the same price but aren’t actually on the menu. Instead of telling us that the item isn’t sold, or that their sushi chef didn’t know what the item was when we ordered, they decided to charge me based on another roll on the menu. I asked if the charge was correct, because it was way more expensive than the past, they explained that it wasn’t on the menu. Though the manager or someone came by to ask about the situation, he made it seem like I didn’t know what I even ordered and that “scallops are expensive”. I didn’t take their offer to remove the items from the bill but I will not be...
Read moreWhere to begin? The edamame was decent and so were the crab rangoons. My wife ordered the steamed gyoza and they were okay. You can tell it is store bought so you can’t be upset. The water tasted a lot like unfiltered tap water. The Dr Pepper was flat and not enjoyable. The hot stone beef bulgogi was extremely disappointing. The rice was burned before it was steamed so there was hard chunks in it. The beef was over cooked and dry, definitely not worth the 18 dollars. The sushi was average at best and it was very over priced. You’re paying sushi Neko prices for sad sushi. The red canyon has fried crawfish on top and it was uncomfortably tough to chew. My wife got a fried cream cheese roll and it was soggy and extremely plain. No flavor at all. Do not get the volcano roll!! It is 90% cream cheese and 10% crab. Just enough to say it has crab In it. The waitress was very apologetic and tried her best to wait about 7 tables. She was running up and down and was very friendly and helpful. Even her great attitude could not make my and my families visit pleasant. On my way to he bathroom, I caught s glimpse of the kitchen, and it made a lot of sense. It was atrocious. I was sickened by where my food was just cooked. I would recommend that you do not visit. Save your time and money. I’ve added some pictures and the total cost of the meal. What an embarrassment of...
