If I could give this a 10 out of 10 I would, but there are some things that need to be improved. 1st their website says they have call ahead seating and reservations. With places that offer this and tend to have reviews saying there is always a 25-45 min wait I tend to utilize this service making sure I made a Google reservation about 45 min before arriving. When I arrived I was told there was a 35 min wait, when I explained I made a Google reservation the host told me they don't do that. And get the phone calls from Google and don't have time to accommodate those request on busy weekends and that someone should leave a negative review to the host site that does that because the owner does not condone this being an option when they are far to busy to allow call ahead seating. Their website also says they have outdoor seating and while they do have a patio it had 2 tables pulled against a wall with no seats. It was 65 degrees out today, sunny and absolutely beautiful a missed opportunity. They had music playing over speakers but it was so low I couldn't hear it. There was no organized waiting area, and while talking to others who were also waiting to be seated they said this was actually slow and that normally there is a line out the door. Which lead me hopefully that the food would be amazing. Overall atmosphere was a 3 out of 10.
When we were finally seated the table was still dirty which had to be cleaned still. The server was super friendly and amazing. I ordered a coffee and it was a 9 out of 10. It was not burnt, it tasted fresh brewed and had good caramel tones the cream and sugar complimented it as one of the best house coffee's I've had in a while..
I ordered the French toast which gives you the option to have fruit compote on top or on the side, I got it on the side so I wouldn't be suprised in case I didn't enjoy the flavor. Their French toast are super unique they are like French toast sticks on longer slices of bread like mini loafs they were quite pleasing and the fruit comote was indeed tastey, It was not too sweet and tasted fresh. Give this a 10 out of 10.
In addition I ordered a Maui omlette which takes your traditional ham and cheese omlette and adds pineapple and coconut shavings. I requested the shavings on the side not to overpower the new flavor I was in store for. The dish also comes with a biscuit and side of home potatoes. They can also bring out honey mustard, ranch and ketchup on request all presumably house made.
The potatoes alone were salted just right and seasoned to perfection you won't need any dipping sauces. A 10 out of 10, but should you try their signature sauces you will not be disappointed the ketchup was a 9 out of 10, the ranch a 10 out of 10 and the honey mustard also a 10 out of 10. I was completely blown away by there food so much that I felt inspired to take videos on top of the normal photos I take for reviews. My mouth is watering as I type this because the food simply blew me away.
The Maui omlette was not overpowered with the coconut and I give this a 8 out of 10 could use a little more pineapple as I got through half of my omlette before tasting it. And the biscuit was fresh flakey and hit the spot. I would love to return and try their. Biscuits and Gravy knowing how good the biscuits are. A 9 out of 10. Overall the food was a 5 star Google review and a 9.5 out of 10.
The service minus my entry with the host was a 10 out of 10 the server was friendly, interactive , and thoughtful she made me feel welcomed and not like just another customer. I received refills on my water and coffee in a timely manner. And there also was a real sense of teamwork with the other servers.
Overall I give this a 4 out of 5 stars. They are only open until 230 and tend to see a busier rush between 1030 and 1130.
They serve breakfast all day, but again close at 230. And also have a lunch menu. I will def visit them again and I won't make the mistake of reserve...
Read moreMy first experience at a Ginger Sue's was in Liberty probably 15 years ago. Since I live in Overland Park, I was excited to see that there's one much closer in Olathe. My experience way back then was great and I was hoping it would still be. I was not disappointed! Everything from our great, helpful attentive server, Cody, to the food was the best! They have an Hawaiian style omelette that I was intrigued by when I visited in Liberty and they still have it. It has the somewhat unusual combination of ham, pineapple, cheese and a little bit of toasted coconut in an omelet. It is completely yummy. I try to watch my sodium so I inquired about the seasoned potatoes and learned I could request them without seasoning. They were great. And the biscuit, I've been thinking about it and I'm pretty sure I've never had a better biscuit in my life. Seriously. And my sweetheart, John, who doesn't actually like biscuits tried it and said, "that is great!" I feel that the prices were certainly reasonable for the amount of food that you got (I had a to-go box with essentially half of what I ordered to take home-it was great reheated too) and the quality. I would be very remiss not to also mention the wonderful pumpkin spice latte! Generous serving and it had great coffee flavor and just the right amount of sweetness and spice. Not an overly syrupy drink like you get at some places where they're trying to hide the burnt coffee flavor. This was lovely. The restaurant has a nice light atmosphere with a cheerful ambience. Highly recommend! Not the best photo as I should have taken one before I started eating. However, that is the amount that I did take...
Read moreWalked in. It's a very sterile environment, cold and not very welcoming. But we were greeted at the door and seated right away. The waitress was nice enough, at first, but the food was subpar. My oatmeal was completely unseasoned - no butter, salt, cinnamon, anything. It came with a small bowl of dried out hard brown sugar and a small container of cream. Tasted mildly better than an instant packet. My friends's French toast was blah. Too much bread and not enough breading or seasoning. She ordered a side of bacon and it came out charred and COVERED in black pepper. She said it also tasted like it had gone bad before being cooked.
We were willing to just pay for everything and go. But I asked the waitress if my friend needed to pay for the bacon even though it was inedible. (She ate 1/2 of one slice.) That's when the waitress copped an attitude. She said, well we don't normally comp food once you order it. If you had just given us a chance to fix it... (Well she never came back to check on us after delivering the food. We never saw her to flag her down. We were busy talking, tho.) She finally agreed to send "her manager" over. Well we never saw a manager but they comp'ed the bacon. In the mean time, the waitress threw away the remainder of my friend's French toast, which she had asked to keep. She was going to give it to her kids. She asked the waitress about it and the waitress offered a semi-sincere apology, no offer to make it right. But since it wasn't even that good, she decided she wouldn't worry about it.
All in all, we will...
