Let me start by saying I was very excited to come and try this place. I looked over the recent reviews and they all just beamed about how great the food was. My fiance had an appt at the Spine Center and I thought going out to breakfast would be a fun little day date.
First of all, parking was a nightmare. I was stressed out before I even got inside. You park in the rear of the building but there wasn’t any parking to be had!
After that nightmare was over we finally get inside to a cramped and drab establishment. Could be worse but could use a face lift.
We were seated right away and ordered our food. He ordered the basic breakfast and I ordered the breakfast poutine.
The wait staff was great. Super friendly. Answered all of our questions. So there’s nothing to bad to be said about them.
We got the complimentary “corn bread” and some odd butter. The cornbread was dry and cold. And the butter just tasted off. Wasn’t our thing. If the corn bread was warmed it may have been different.
Our food came out unexpectedly fast. Too fast. My poutine…the potatoes were ice cold. They were not cut into consistent sized pieces so some were way under cooked while others were just mush. The gravy was lukewarm at best. The cheese curds should have been oozy and melty but they too were stone cold. The only hot thing was my poached eggs. Even the toast was ice cold, little to no butter and not really toasted. This just tells me they pre prep almost all their food.
My fiance got scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, and potatoes. Same thing. Bacon was cold and oddly in small pieces. Like they took one strip and ripped it into several pieces. The sausage was cold and rubbery and did not taste right. I think it was most likely bad. His eggs were warm but no seasoning. And the potatoes were the same as mine. Ice cold and oddly cooked.
It just wasn’t a good food experience. The wait staff didn’t ask us if we even liked our food or how it was. But they did bring us water, took our plates etc. Friendly and inviting.
We probably won’t be back. The food was just too over priced for the portions and for it to be cold. If I wanted cold left overs I could have came home to eat leftovers out...
Read moreFirst time my family has ate here. We got here at about 10am on Friday and there was a line ahead of us of about 6 small party's. After about 20 minutes we got called to a table.. We have a 9 month old and at first the waitress surprised when I had the baby on my chest because the table they had set aside didn't have room to have a high chair set aside it without blocking a walkway. She was accommodating and we agreed would be fine holding our baby. I ordered #1 Hash, my partner got the Salmon omelette , our baby got a little bit of everything and a fruit cup. I figured since it was my first time coming here I would order the meal that the place is named after. I got the Corned beef hash with 2 over easy eggs and wheat toast. The presentation was very pleasant when served. The hash itself was as described, the corned beef was very tender and flavorful. It was placed in nice intervals on top of the potatoes and onions. I cut through my eggs with my fork and mixed it up slightly to get the umami flavors really popping. Each ingredient of the food was cooked right to the texture that makes it the most palatable. When you take a little bit of everything on one fork full all the flavors mix together splendidly. As you know corned beef is rather salty but they took that into account by not over salting the other ingredients in the dish. There wasn't an overabundance of food but there also wasn't not enough to leave you hungry. I really enjoyed my experience for my first time at Hash. Hash is quaint in just about everyway. Small building, seating that is tight but cozy, a good selection of condiments on the table. Water delivered to each table in a carafe with little mason jars for water glasses. It's everyone's cake day at Hash because the complimentary appetizer is cornbread cake with what tasted like frosting to spread...
Read moreThey should change their name from Hash to "PASS". Why you might ask? By the time you get served your food, two hours will pass. So your better off " PASSing" by this restaurant and going some where else to eat so you can eat and be home resting by time this restaurant will seat and serve you food. My wife and I got there at 12:00 noon. We put our name on the waiting list which had us on the 11th spot to be served for at least 1 hour and 35 minutes. They finally "sat us" (even though we were sitting the whole time outside). Mind you, 12 tables had people leave, but were not turned around quick enough to seat waiting customers. By the time we were re- seated and the server took our food orders, another 20 minutes elapsed. By the time we got our food it was already 2:00p.m. I ordered the "Staff Favorite" , as it said on the menu- Shredded Beef Brisket Biscuit with Hollandaise Sauce and home fries. My wife ordered their "Loco Moco" -White Rice with brown gravy and two eggs over hard. She didn't smile when she ate it her food. My eggs were undercooked, and no egg gravy indicated in the eggs when I cut into it and the biscuit. We both felt our dishes had no seasoning. Their was very little beef brisket shreds on my biscuit. The home fries were the best tasting thing on my plate. The vibe was nice, but food and service did not deliver. We gave it a 6/10. They either need to make a Seating Area or be a "Reservation Only" Restaurant. Also, lack of efficiency when turning around tables is hurting their business. It would a better customer experience if they can figure this out. The one positive is their food is organic. The negative is the water bottles filled with tap water are not desirable. It takes away from a safe organic eating experience when you see white specs floating around in your water from a dirty refillable...
