An improved trail up a steep-sided canyon eroded into an Illinoisian-Wisconsin glacial ground morraine between Rogers St at top & West Bay Drive at base. The trail has patches of gravel, stairs, caissons and wooden bridges with hand rails. Runs through quiet & moist forest with tall cedars, pines & broad leaves - very natural. Several fern species are abundant along the canyon sides and salmonberries are concentrated along the lower stream course. Minor blackberrys/wild roses. Has about 200' in total climb, mostly concentrated at the top, approaching the Rogers entrance. Used by walkers, joggers, dog walkers & the curious. Mountain bike? Forget it. Read moreWent here with my 18 month old son. Google dropped us randomly so we had to find the entrance. Turns out we found the one with a ton of steps. This place is NOT accessible to strollers, just in case you are wondering (we even have the rugged type). My son is a toddler so this wasn't an issue, we just had to carry him a lot. Super cute path, very lush and peaceful. We went in summer so the creek was dried up. Not super safe for new toddlers to cruise around. HOWEVER, the surprise at the other end of the path was a very child friendly stream my son loved to splash in. Made the whole trip worth it. He didn't want to leave, and we will be back. For a quick trip we will park on the West Bay Park side. I'm sure this will be more enjoyable...
Read moreShort and sweet! Takes about 15 minutes if you are at an average pace and beautiful throughout. Note: there is a very steep set of stairs leading to West Bay / leading up to the Westside, use caution if you have any mobility issues.
I've seen a Moutain Beaver (small!) and a River otter here in 2025.
There is a bench that was put in this year towards the steps and its a perfect spot to rest, with a nice view...
