Edit to correct rating - only 3 stars. Not worth 4 stars.
I have been a customer of Koibito Sushi on Harrison for over 20 years - no, this is not an exaggeration. They know me when I come in. I've even brought in my group of coworkers for 2 birthday lunches. I left a 5 star review many years ago and now I'm back for an update.
I started going to Koibito's when a friend recommended them for sushi, although I've eaten many of their other dishes by now. Large portions, very fresh, cheerful attitudes, and very attractive presentations were all the norm. I'm very glad I did until the last few years.
I have experienced over the last 5 years or so, starting before the Covid-19 pandemic, how the quality of sushi, service, dishes, presentations, and consistency have changed during this time. While they do serve a good bento box or tempura or soup, I won't order sushi anymore! This is unfortunate because their sushi was always the main draw for me.
I've read some of the recent reviews here and how pleased they were with their sushi and other food. Each a 5 star review. I haven't experienced a 5 star meal here in years! 3 star meals (satisfactory, ok, plain, meh, nothing to differentiate themselves from other sushi restaurants), sure, but not even 4 stars.
It's expensive to eat out now, so it's important to have a place that you know is going to be consistent from visit to visit. I can't say that with Koibito Sushi. It's very annoying! Why does this happen?

Read moreI went to this restaurant with friends last night. For the first 45 minutes we were the only patrons. The server could not be patient enough to wait two minutes before asking for our order. To buy some time, I ordered the tempura appetizer for our group to share. Upon delivering said tempura, server immediately again wanted to know our order, yet we were still undecided- I asked for a few minutes. Server waited two before asking again. I didn’t u understand the rush, given we were the only people in the restaurant. Tempura was uncooked and batter flavor was all I tasted. Sushi rolls which contained tempura were again undercooked. Fish was only okay and seemed frozen. We were not even halfway done with our meal when server appeared, asking if we wanted boxes and our check . Maybe fifteen minutes had passed since the final sushi rolls which had been delivered. I said that we wanted to continue eating at the table. Server puts down the bill at this time. I got the feeling that this woman was incredibly suspicious our party, though I cannot fathom why; I am a middle aged woman who was with two younger women. We were all dressed nicely. I had the distinct impression that the server thought we weren’t going to pay for our disappointing meal, though no one said anything at the time. I paid the bill and we left. It was gross. I won’t be back and I do not suggest you go there, either. Especially if you get any crunchy or tempura/...
Read moreVery friendly wait staff and high quality sushi. I absolutely love the wide variety of sushi that they offer. They have a very detailed menu so that those who are new to sushi understand what they are ordering. They always offer a cup of miso soup while you are waiting for your meal. The sushi is always fresh and beautifully placed with wasabi and ginger on the side for flavor. If you want the full experience I would highly recommend ordering the chefs choice. It's a surprise variety. These pictures were also taken after I had traded my friend two of our sushi pieces so it doesnt look as pretty as it did when I first received the plate. If you love sushi or are new to sushi I definitely recommend coming here for an all around delightful meal. They also offer a wide variety of non sushi cuisine. I have had several other non sushi dishes there and am constantly pleased with the quality of the food. Definitely...
