So, a quick TL;DR for those who don't want to read the full review. If you plan to order here, expect to wait 30 - 45 minutes for online orders and 1-1.5hrs for dine in orders. To top that off, the food was mediocre at best, with the shwarma being incredibly dry, the olive leaves are slimey, and the food all around being fairly bland and tasteless.
Now for the full version: My wife and I (Table 1) got in line behind another couple (Table 2). They ordered a Combo Appetizer Platter and Beef Shwarma with Rice.
We ordered the Combo Appetizer Platter and a Shwarma Combo.
45 minutes went by, and neither Table 1 or 2 had received any food yet. A couple of other groups had come in and ordered and sat down at this point. We also noticed a handful of people who placed online orders had come in and all sat down to wait even though this was when the site told them their odder would be ready. All of them waited about 30 - 45-minutes for the order that was already supposed to be done.
One guy came in while no one was even at the register (there is a guy who I assume is the owner and his daughter that run things, and both of them would disappear into the kitchen, leaving the counter unattended).
Back to those of us dining in. Finally, the owner brings food out to Table 2, Beef Shwarma with fries, what they brought out is incorrect. They tell him they ordered rice with it, no big deal should be an easy fix, go back in, and swap our the fries for rice. Instead, the owner brings out Table 1 and 2's tickets and asks them to clarify what their order is. Then he comes to our table and shows us both tickets and asks us to clarify which one is ours.
Both tickets were correct, so why in the world was he bringing the wrong food to Table 2!? He disappears back into the room. Another 10 minutes goes by, and Table 2 gets their Appetizer Combo. Another 10 minutes after that, we get ours.
The hummus was bland, and the stuffed olive leaves were slimey. Everything else was ok.
Another 10 minutes goes by, and the owner appears again to help someone else. The guy at Table 2 asks about the Beef Shawarma with Rice that never got replaced. The owner tells him, "I will get it for you, but there are other customers ahead of you." All of us are pretty flabbergasted since Table 2 had been held hostage in this restaurant longer than any of the rest of us. Who else could possibly be in front of them even when the order had already been brought out and was simply incorrect.
Fearing we had also been forgotten I asked him about our Shwarma Combo. He acted surprised as if we had only ordered the appetizers as if he hadn't come out half-an-hour ago to confirm ours and Table 2's orders. Then he made a comment about how his daughter had taken the orders and must have messed something up. His daughter had gotten the orders 100% correct as shown on the tickets, but the owner just can't seem to remember any of it.
Another 10 minutes goes by, and the last of our food finally comes out. As mentioned at the beginning, the meats were fairly dry, especially the chicken, and everything was a bit bland. We ate what we could quickly (we missed out on any further plans we had that night) and left. At the time we walked out the door, Table 2 still hadn't gotten their Beef Shwarma with Rice even though the Shwarma itself had already been brought out and for some reason returned to the kitchen simply awaiting rice.
Table 2, if you happen to be reading this, I'm really sorry and hope you weren't trapped in that restaurant much longer. The outside world is a beautiful place, and I hope you got to...
Read moreTheir food is good, but they always mess up my order, or try to act smart to put very little meat. I ordered today 4 dinners from them and eac dinner comes with either rice or fries, so I chose rice with all the dinners. On the shawarma mix dinner, he put rice then very little meat then topped it with fries. I initially thought he only put fries, and when I called him, he said no I put both, and that’s when I realized how little meat he had on the dinner. Another time I ordered from them, I asked them to substitute my tahini sauce with garlic sauce, because my kids are allergic to sesame, and after I drove all the way to Elkhorn, he had only tahini sauce and no garlic sauce. Of course I had to drive back to the store to substitute the sauces and it takes me 30 minutes one way, so an extra hour of driving. I told him that I live very far when I went back, and he didn’t even say sorry for the inconvenience or try to show me that he felt bad for making me drive back, no he said that it...
Read moreOnce entering the place, the owner is welcoming, friendly and is welling to help answering questions about the menu. He’s also very attentive to cleaning up after each table, keeping the place tidy and clean.
After ordering, the food was served promptly with the owner wearing gloves (hardly see that even during COVID). We had a mix of everything and the food was delicious! These are hands down the best falafels I have ever had in my life.
One of the many things we appreciated is the menu offers many vegan options which are labeled.
It’s rare that you see a place that has the golden trifecta: 1) reasonable pricing, 2) great customer service, and 3) exceptionally tasting food. I highly recommend going here and trying great, authentic Middle...
