Kurry Xpress is located in the strip mall restaurant that Tokyo Kitchen previously occupied. I used to visit Kurry Xpress when it was down on Q Street, and it was much more of a take-out place with only disposable plates and flatware.
The food was good then and there, and it is now as well. This was my first time at the new place, and I enjoyed the Sunday buffet that had a good variety of dishes. I began at the table with the plates (real ones) and silverware, but discovered when I sat down to dine, that I had started with the desert table. Oh well, life is short, eat dessert first, right?
I like Indian food, but I can only identify a handful of dishes by name. Yeah, I could have Googled, but I'd rather eat than Google, and it all looked good. My trust was rewarded. The biryani rice, as someone else mentioned, was worthy of a second taste, but I enjoyed all the choices. The best part of a buffet is sampling a variety of dishes. I would guess there were easily 15 items to try. There was also an unlabeled creamy, somewhat frothy hot beverage. I suspect it was some kind of chai tea. My dining partner thought it had a chocolate component.
The server kept our plates cleared and filled our water glasses. The manager chatted with us and said the lunch buffet is served Tuesday through Sunday, with a larger variety on the weekends. The Sunday buffet was $12, ($13.13 after tax).
I'm glad to have rediscovered Kurry Xpress, and I'm looking forward to taking my husband here for his birthday.
Update: We're back on a weekday The selection is also fantastic on a weekday and the cost is less at $10.99. Both the chicken korma and butter chicken were on the buffet and we're so good, so there ARE foods available that are not as spicy as some of the others. Staff again was personable and welcoming. Do try this place!
Update 8/3/19 Still good. They updated the...
Read moreThis is not my favorite Omaha Indian Restaurant.
The place did not appear to be very clean. It had a very shabby overall appearance that was not particularly inviting.
The staff was not flat out discourteous but they also didn't seem to care that we were there, either. There was no "how was your meal" or "come back again".
Everything is served on styrofoam and you eat with plastic utensils. I guess that's okay but generally when I eat off disposable plates I'm not paying $11 for lunch. But, hey, it is "Xpress", right?
If you want water, you can either buy a bottle or get some out of a room temperature water dispenser (and drink it out of a tiny foam cup). No ice was offered.
I had the Chicken Tikka Masala served with rice and something on the side. The food was hot but unappealing. The sauce had an unpleasant texture, it was almost pasty.
They do give you a lot of sauce but aren't that generous with the chicken. If you want more rice you have to pay extra.
Personally, I was surprised to see so many 4 start reviews here and that's one of the reasons I agreed to go.
This place does not compare to other locations like Southern Spice (just up the road) or The Taj.
Hopefully, this was a one off experience. I don't believe I'm interested in trying...
Read moreWe had lunch today at the Clive, IA Kurry Express. When we came in the door, the smell of the food cooking was amazing. Sad to say, other reviews are correct: Express is a misnomer, you definitely want to call ahead. I can't blame the cook for that--things take however long they take (in our case, about half an hour). My wife and I ordered chicken vindaloo and chicken tikka masala respectively, along with garlic naan and butter naan. That, with water to drink, came to a bit over $24, WAY more than we wanted to spend. The food itself was very good indeed, and the portions generous--though one can blame the cook for the onion ring-like dish on our plates (probably veg korma, from the description on the menu) being cold. (Tasty, but cold.) As others have mentioned, you get paper plates and plastic utensils, which didn't please my wife at all. The least expensive entrees are $7, and the vast majority are $9, with some running as high as $13. So.. .in summary, the food is very good, but rather expensive, and definitely grab a copy of the paper menu and call in your order a half hour...
