This was the first experience my husband and I have had with Rosati's, and we were very impressed. We called asking about delivery, as it was a Saturday night and we didn't know if our address was in their delivery area. We're a little bit outside the area, but the driver agreed to go ahead with the delivery. We ordered a Chicago style classic combo pizza (minus green peppers), a side salad, cheesy garlic bread, and cannoli for dessert. $4.50 delivery charge, which we thought was very reasonable. The driver got here around 45 minutes after we ordered, and asked me to check if he had everything: no pizza!š§ He was so embarrassed and apologetic, and went back to Rosati's to get the pizza. While he did that, we had the salad and some of the bread. When the driver got back after about 25 minutes, he apologized again (we weren't upset, it was the weekend so they were probably busy and trying to hurry, and mistakes happenš) and said that we had been given a credit on our account that we (a bit later) realized was nearly the same as the price of the pizza!š§ We called Rosati's back and told them that wasn't necessary, but they said it was part of their customer service policy, that if they made a mistake they gave the customer credit. Nice!
Now, as far as the food goes, that was all really good too. The salad was nice and fresh, and the balsamic vinaigrette dressing we chose rounded it out nicely. The cheesy garlic bread was thin slices with a nice amount of cheese, and the garlic was definitely present but not overpowering. The pizza was really good, a nice balance of toppings and flavor, and enough toppings that we didn't feel like it was all crust. The crust was nice, some texture but not overly doughy or chewy. The next time, though, I think we'll order it with extra cheese, we felt like it needed a little more. We only ate half of it, so we had dinner for the next day too. The cannoli seemed like they needed a little something else. The pastry for them was thick and crunchy, we were thinking it would be thinner and crispy, and it somewhat overrode the taste of the filling. Maybe more chocolate chips in the filling, and/or drizzle with chocolate? But overall, we were quite pleased with the food, and very impressed and pleased by the service. This one's definitely worth getting...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAs a Chicagoland transplant to omaha this is a solid 2-3/5 for the deep dish. This is not a review of the resturaunt or staff or atmosphere. Prices are spot on for a deepdish. Expensive but that's deep dish. I did takeout. Could have played a role but very unlikely based on my Chicago experience of Uno's, Gino's East etc. Take this with a grain of .....cornmeal. Like they should with the crust, which was a complete miss. I've made this at home. Half a cup to 1 cup of cornmeal is standard and a game changer. Please add that to each two pizza batches worth of dough. Please for the love of God. I'm tired of making this at home. It's amazing and will put you over the top. 5/5 Pizza appearance 5/5 mozzarella layer 4.5-5/5 Sauce. Taste and consistency preference. 5/5 Ingredients. 3.5/5 Seasoning on top. Not traditional and not preference. But not bad. 1-2/5 Crust. This is the major issue and what defines Chicago Deep Dish. Without the cornmeal it doesn't have any snap when you bite. This tasted like regular thin crust used for dual purpose deep dish. This is a sin in Chicago Deep Dish. Also what defines it as a leftover. This crust tastes like an idea of a Chicago deep dish from someone who has never sat downtown and had a true Southside deep dish pizza. Not bad at all but missing a key aspect. They are clearly doing great things. Sauce. Toppings. Moz amount. Appearance. But missing the base. I'm nit picking but this is like buying a dodge charger without a helcat. Different all together and in the end not worth the premium if it doesn't deliver. I hope the resturaunt takes this as constructive feedback and not negative criticism. I will keep buying the deep dish every few months because it was good enough. It's just hard when you see so much good without the great. Please keep making pizzas guys. And thank you.
On a side note I didn't realize you guys were a chain and maybe not in control of your ingredient process. And based on other feedback maybe not in a position to control your dough. So I'm sorry if I'm criticizing things that you are not in control of or...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe were really pleased with our visit! Now, let me say that this restaurant is owned by a friend's(Kendrick's) family, but that doesn't mean that you should eat there based on that fact. However, I believe the food to be really good. My daughters, Leonardo, and I met with our friends, the Blues (Martha & Chris), for a relaxed meal.
We were a bit late as we had just left the Nebraska Asian Festival downtown and the restaurant was out west. For me, the only con is that my family doesn't live close. I will drive for good food though. š
Okay, the important stuff. We ordered a side salad, BBQ Wings and a Meat Mania pizza. The salad was really good for some reason. It wasn't because we were really hungry so it must just be that good. Haha. The wings were pretty good as well; no complaints there. I will have to go back and give the buffalo a try.
Now, to the Mania attraction, the pizza. Yes, I said "Mania". The Meat Mania is for meat lovers. It comes with Italian sausage, meatball pepperoni edith bacon on top. This one is sure to please. We ordered the 12" and the was plenty of food as my youngest only wanted salad and wings. In my mind you can't really go wrong with this combination of meat and they didn't. After the appetizers I didn't have a ton of vacant space in my belly so I only ate 3 pieces. The pizza comes in squares so that isn't much. I was happy to take the rest for leftovers.
Leftovers...sometimes are better than the original. In this case, the 2 days that I ate them made me want more. I ate the remaining pieces cold and oh boy was it tasty. I'm excited to go back and try the Chicago Deep Dish style.
Like a lot of pizza places, Rosati's has more to offer than just pizza alone. They have calzones, sandwiches and pastas as well. While we didn't have a sandwich ourselves, the Blues each had one and they mentioned how good they were. We will be back.
While Rosati's is a franchise this particular spot is locally owned. Stop out for good Za and friendly...
