Rusty Taco — Restaurant in Omaha

Decided to try Rusty Taco as the menu online looks tasty.

Ordered a picadillo taco, a brisket taco, a Rusty taco and a Baja shrimp taco.

The picadillo and Rusty tacos were pretty good, not the most amazing I've had, but pretty decent for a $3 taco.

The brisket on the other hand was barely shredded, like another reviewer said, mine was more chunks of meat, large enough that it was difficult to try to bite off, and somewhat hard to chew.

The shrimp taco had maybe 4 of the smallest shrimp you can get.

The margarita we ordered was probably 99% mix and a splash of tequila. Super sweet, syrupy, with a hint of tequila flavor.

But the best part was watching the health code violations add up. One of the cooks handled raw shrimp, then every single topping without ever changing gloves. Yes straight from raw shrimp to handling everyone's toppings. Hope no one is allergic to shellfish.

Another cook started with flower tortillas in a holder, then refilled it with corn tortillas, then flower. This was after we had told the cashier that we had a corn allergy in our group. Don't worry, they fry everything in the same friers so corn, shrimp, etc.

The cashier put a to go order in the tortilla chips warmer to keep it warm. So hope you enjoy your chips comingling with plastic bags that were sitting on prep counters, etc.

Also didn't see the health code report posted, but maybe it was hanging on the wall beside the tortilla chips warmer. Wherever it was it wasn't easy to see. Online it says they have an excellent rating, I'd have to disagree based on...

We absolutely LOVE this location! Derrick , the manager is AMAZING! He explained that he took over as manager a little over a month and a half ago and you would never be able to tell he's new to the position..I was talking with him and thanking him for his amazing customer service because he always goes above and beyond to make sure his guests are happy. Being from the South, I truly miss that Southern hospitality, It's so hard to find in the Midwest, there are less than a handful of establishments I have felt that have it since having to relocate due to husband being in the military, but it is definitely felt here. The food is always fresh and delicious. We always get the Philly taco, the uptown (check availability) and the chicken tacos, absolutely amazing. We tried the new birria tacos this time but honestly I did not care too much for them I felt they lacked a little seasoning, I had to add salt and pepper. But I seen someone else complain about the salt on another review so maybe it's just the cook that day or they felt they needed to lighten up on it. We also decided to try the limited time only Margarita flight that they are offering during the summer. The flavors were delicious but felt that they were a little too sweet for my taste. It was not like the margarita I had last time which was the prickly pear and the best margarita I've ever had. Maybe it was the flights. Over all 10 out of 10, great food and excellent service. Have been going to Rusty Taco for 8 years regularly now. Went in this time to order 3 items. Cashier was new but I’m not knocking that at all, he was very friendly. I was not asked if my order was “to go” as I usually am, so when I sat down to wait for my order, I shortly realized they needed to know this and immediately got back up to attempt to advise the staff so they would be as least inconvenienced as possible and apologized more than once on my end for not telling them.

Unfortunately, the attitude I received was less than courteous from the two staff members cooking the food, and to my surprise, the apparent manager on duty as well. I do not blame them for being frustrated at me, but I did not expect anything to the affect of a scolding or eye rolling-esque response which I got . Put a bad taste in my mouth… no pun intended. I will continue to come to Rusty Taco again in the future and look forward to writing a 5 star review for them eventually. Sometimes reviews only get written when a negative experience is had, when I could have easily written several 5 star reviews until this occurred.
