When I first came to Zio's almost 15 years ago, it was one of the places that made me feel at home. Having lived in Mt. Vernon NY for my young life, I couldn't stand the processed manufactured pizza franchises but Zio's had everything I remember getting from Joe's Pizza on 4th avenue. The slices were absolutely everything that I had missed from home. But now, I go to Zio's and somehow their pizza dough is paper thin, their cheese is sparse, and every time I asked for extra tomato sauce, about 80% of the time, it barely looks like any sauce is on there at all. The slices used to be able to fold into a perfect well baked wedge that had cheese and sauce wonderfully dripping with every bite. Now it's like I'm eating a preheated oven-ready pizza kit. Maybe it's just this store on Dodge? It's just that I would gladly spend an extra buck a slice just to have the pizza I used to get a few years back. You had a good run Zio's but you lost me.
Update 3-5-23 People like pizza. It's a staple of a food we have all come to love and spend time around the family with. But we also know that people in different regions prefer tier area's type of pizza. Chicago Deep Dish, New York by the slice, pizza with pineapple. My review wasn't so much a reflection on anyone else's personal opinion, by my observations of the quality and presentation and taste of that pizza. When I first moved to Omaha almost 15 years ago, it was a pizza that immediately reminded me of home. It was the first place I took my father to, and after having one slice, he bought a whole large pizza. That's how much we I appreciated and enjoyed Zio's .
So understand that Zio's comments to my review are both unprofessional, unrealistic, rude, and down right offensive. So they summarize their point to the google name I choose would be akin to saying that a person can't drive a car well because they have a vanity license plate. I got news for them, many "real names" seen on Google profiles, aren't peoples real name, quite often.
You know what I was hoping for? Zio's saying that they were at least looking into the matter, maybe they had a bad series of moments or off days, or just simple mistakes in the kitchen they never saw. But no. Apparently someone who responded doesn't know that you can use the same recipe and come out with different results every time. That cooking something longer or shorter changes the final product. Yet their response never even addressed the lack of sauce, a simple matter, that had happened on multiple occasions. That's not a recipe issue, that's a customer service issue. Their final conclusion was, "Everyone else likes us so screw you." Well alright then.
I was a happy, loyally, go-to-Zio's if you come to Omaha, guy for fifteen years. Apparently that wasn't even worthy of a mite of...
Read moreMy wife and I decided to try one of our ol' favorite pizza joints from back in the day Friday 8/23/24 at approx 7pm as we're Big O lifers and know where to go in town for the better sit down meals. This was one of them.....like 10-20 years ago!
My has this Zio's location gone down hill! Sign said seat yourself but every open table had yet to be cleared off and cleaned,. We sat at a round table and eventually got water and menus but was told the wait could be awhile. The waitress was obviously exasperated which created a tense unwelcoming atmosphere.
I remember coming hear when they had the location on the other side of the Holiday bar and were greeted with a smile. Always busy then with little seating but we would stand and wait because the pizza was that good. Not surprising that now 15-20 years later Zio's is going down hill and will probably be gone in the next five years if this is what they have become.
So we left and went to another pizza place that is what they used to be.
Tasty Pizza.
Take note Zio's if you truly want to not become the next 'CLOSED' iconic Omaha restaurant like Piccolo's, Caniglia's, Angie's Bohemian Cafe. Those were great Omaha restaurants that served great food until they didn't.
The competition isn't the new quirky foodie operation, but your own ability to maintain a level of taste, quality, and service each of those businesses lost and didn't recapture.
I don't blame the 'staff' who were working Friday night, but management who puts their employees in such aggravating situations for them and your customers and really don't care as long as the next hungry sucker walks through that front door.
Disappointed...
Read moreI gave 2 stars merely because when my calzones were remade and we got the correct ones, it was DELICIOUS!! HOWEVER, The overall experience was not good! First, the time est we were given for our pizza was way late. We were told it’ll take minimum an hour. It was Saturday night so my husband and I assumed it’s just busy. We wait the hour, go in and our pizza and calzones were cold as if they sat there for at least 30 mins. Second, our order was completely wrong. We ordered a XL PEP PIZZA WITH BELL PEPPERS AND ONIONS. Instead got a pepperoni mushroom and bell pepper/onions. My family doesn’t eat mushrooms but we looked past it. Then we ordered 3 different calzones. My husband can’t have pork and they put all three calzones in one box instead of individually and pork grease was every where. WE ALSO OVER LOOKED THAT, and the fact that he got the wrong calzone. It was an all cheese one so we were going to just make do. THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG WAS A HAIR IN MY HUSBANDS CALZONE!!!! That was it, we called them and told them, and the gentleman was not sympathetic at all or sincerely apologetic whatsoever. All he said was do you want your money back or us to remake it. I was blown away. We waited so LONG FOR THIS FOOD AND WE WANTED TO TRY IT FOR YEARS! WHEN WE FINALLY DID, this was our experience. It’s sad because we spent $60 bucks and tipped as well for food and service to be exceptional.
Attached are pics! I say the food is great if you eat it fresh and if it’s actually made right! The service could be better! Take accountability please and make it right for your...
