This is a mom and pop shop and I really appreciate their hard work. And they really are working hard. However, the quality and atmosphere really suffers because they are under-resourced. Their beignets, while made to order, are dense and soggy and because they are so high volume with only one fryer, the oil is reused all morning and tastes like soap and poison. As someone who’s been to New Orleans and eaten a lot of beignets and doughnuts, these are truly terrible. Additionally, as commented by others, the place lacks general food hygiene and is not a good atmosphere (feels like you’re eating in someone’s basement). Because there is only one cook and one hostess/server/cashier, it is wildly inefficient - they forgot orders, miscommunicated, and overall were just too frazzled and overwhelmed. They were also not honest about the wait time. They said it would take “a little bit” and we waited over an hour. Then, I saw the folks behind me getting their order and had to remind them they just forgot my order!
TL;DR: Do not go here. Food bad. Atmosphere bad....
Read moreWe went here about a month ago, met the owner, she was pleasant and funny, the service was good, beignets were also good and fresh. Went back yesterday, Nov. 16, the woman at the counter was not the owner, we ordered a dozen, she seemed very frustrated that we didn't immediatley know what we wanted and had some questions and when we ordered we requested a half and half order for different kinds of filled beignets and didn't want the drizzle on them, this also seem irritating to her. What's worse is we brought in some family that are visting from out of town. Almost $26 for a dozen filled.
The Beignets came out fairly quickly, the man in back must have had her repeat the order 3 or 4 times. She was nicer when the order came out. What I find odd, we were outside eating and a young couple came in at 11:25 and both the cook and the woman at the counter shouted "we're closed", the door wasn't locked and the sign says closes at 12:00ish. If they are closing, they really should lock the door. If this was my first time going there, I...
Read moreI do not normally leave bad reviews. I always try to find the positive but on this one & only visit I couldn't find one positive. I can't even say that I got to try a beignet....because the man at the counter was so rude I turned around & left. I've never in my life been made to feel like a nuisance in a place of business. We walked in & immediately were scolded because there couldn't be that many people inside due to covid. There were 5 of us & we all were intending on buying. I stand there waiting to order while the rest of my group went outside. There was one other customer in there who was obviously a regular. The man looked at her & said I haven't had any customers for an hour & then all of these people come in right at closing. I said that it was quite alright & I didn't feel that I needed to buy a thing & left. He never once said a word directly to me. This man may be a fine man to some but towards me he was a coward who didn't deserve my business. We went across the street to an adorable bakery & spent our...
