Steak 'n Shake — Restaurant in Orange Township

Updated review!! This place was awful the first several years we lived nearby (see previous reviews below) but something has happened recently and we find ourselves eating here weekly! The burger patties are always fresh and delicious, and the fries are to die for. I think I'm addicted 😂 I can't have milkshakes anymore but my family says those have also improved greatly. There are some small areas that could still be improved, but this store is clearly trying to clean up and get back to what Steak and Shake used to be. The whole company is actually revamping and I'm here for it! Goodbye seed oils! (The woman who is typically cooking in the afternoon/evening is NOT friendly! She can cook a great burger but I'd keep her out of customer reach. She has been rude to customers multiple times when we've been eating here.)

OLD REVIEW: I love steak and shake and honestly, I avoid negative reviews for anything less than crappy service. Service was slow and it took forever for us to be seated. All tables were dirty with very little customers eating. Server was not knowledgeable about the menu. My biggest complaint was the shake. We all ordered cereal shakes and got vanilla shakes with literally a tablespoon of crushed cereal on top. Not worth it and we were all extremely disappointed. Food was good, everything else was terrible. The kiosk kind of kills the fun you used to get coming here, but that is kind of everywhere now. The issues we had all came after we ordered. We kind of stuck to the floors walking around, we went to the bathroom since we had been out shopping. The men's room had no soap in either dispenser, the lady's room had no toilet paper. They were out of straws which they did end up finding more to put out, but they were also out of ketchup cups and couldn't seem to find any. They had the tea drink dispenser out, but it was just open at the top, and looked kind of disgusting and dirty. Anyone could have knocked it over or screwed with it. When employees did emerge from behind the wall they were quick to return. She called our name when she put the milkshakes out, but we brought them back to our table (which was also sticky and disgusting) and started talking. We wondered when our food would be up and ended up looking over to see that they put it out at some point and just never called our name. It was us and one other family, so the place wasn't exactly packed. The food was good, as were the milkshakes, but I don't think I will ever step foot in that particular steak & shake ever again. We were in the drive through for 45 minutes, when we were handed a bag, an half full and melted shake and told to have a nice day. The bag was missing 4+ items. We proceeded to sit in the drive thru to wait for service and when service didn’t come my partner stayed in the car and I went into the lobby to which I was met with 4 other groups of people all with similar experiences. After waiting in the lobby and getting ignored for almost 15 minutes, I went back to the car to eat the food we did get, only to realize I was not given the correct burger nor did it look appetizing at all. It had one full patty and one meatball looking item. I have a picture if you would like to see. At which point we asked for our money back so we could just go as it had been over an hour and the gentleman behind the counter informed us that he couldn’t give us our money back. He called his manager to which we proceeded to wait for, for an additional 30 minutes. After almost 40 minutes with no manager we were told we were better off just leaving and calling in the morning.
