Came in to meet a friend today (5/19) around noon. It is our usual meet up spot. Ordered my matcha latte and when I was about to pick up my drink, the server dumped part of my drink into the sink and said "oops, forgot the whipped cream" when I did not even ask for it. I told him that was not even in the order and he nonchalantly shoved the partially filled cup of latte in front of me. I told him that it's not right for him to dump part of my drink. He then topped it up with milk to which he ruined the matcha and expected me to accept it. I told him that this was unacceptable to which, he proceeded to loudly and sarcastically try to shame me by saying, "Umm... then do you want me to make you another cup?" To which I replied that I did not want him to spit on my drink. He should have known better, if it was his mistake, he should not have even asked and just fix the mistake. This has been my frequent spot in the neighborhood. If that's your changed business model and this is how you treat your customers, there are many other cafes in the neighborhood and you're not the only meet up spot. I have frequented your very first location on 53rd Ave in Hillsboro since the early days and this Cedar Mill location has horrible customer service. This is not how I expected Insomnia to be. Disappointed to say the very least. Picture of my ruined latte that was topped up with cold leftover...
Read moreI really want to love this place, it's so close and the employees are wonderful. It also isn't quite as cold-steel-and-concrete forbidding as many PNW coffee places.
Maybe it's just my choices, but I've not had anything really tasty here. Today I had a Blueberry muffin--very sticky, overbaked, and heavy, with surprisingly little flavor. I thought it would be great combined with the blackforest mocha...mistake.
Blackforest mocha was a mocha with added berry syrup. Unfortunately, chocolate plus coffee plus berry turns out not to go together. At all. It was kinda like paint thinner with berry overtones. Possibly sticking with the original black forest flavors--cherry, chocolate, and whipped cream--would have been a better choice. It was topped with a sweet, dense chocolate whipped cream that didn't help.
So...love the spot, can't figure out which items to...
Read moreIn town and first visit to this modern, friendly coffee house. As a celiac I am looking for good coffee and gluten free eats. Their pastries looked fabulous for gluten lovers btw and I would have loved a blueberry muffin or cinnamon roll. They have Gluten Free Hand Pies and I asked if they could handle it celiac friendly I would order one. They knew exactly how to use separate tongs and protect it from gluten as they prepared it. The pastry on it was flaky and buttery and I was immediately concerned that it wasn't gluten free because it was so good. Rest assured it was gf and I ate safely. We had real caramel lattes to go with and it made for the perfect after run brunch. They did make an error on my husband's order, but they more than made up for the error. We would absolutely come here again and highly recommend Insomnia Coffee Company. Make a point...
