It's Mio, not really any different than any other Mio aside from the new interior. They are a good small local chain, I've been to them all, even the one in Vancouver. Came to this new location during their pre-opening and it wasn't too busy on weekday evening at 6 PM. Food and service is always consistent. The Oregon Roll with real crab, not imitation Krab with a 'K' is to die for, of course I got one and it was just as good as always. Where Mio always seems to fail is with the Hamachi nigiri, I almost think they're serving Yellow Fin instead of Yellowtail? Two completely different fishes. The Hamachi looks like Yellow Fin, a dull pinkish color and always has a bit of a sour old fishy after taste. Sashimi is often a better a cut and looks appropriate, Yellowtail is an Amberjack and should be more transparent white in color with a red edge and with a clean smooth delicious buttery flavor. This seems to be a consistent issue with sushi places around Portland with exception to Murata and Sinju who do Hamachi nigiri right. In LA this was never an issue either. Otherwise, everything was great and most of the staff was still masking up regardless of no one else, which is doesn't bother me either way. Nice food presentation and clean interior. Lots of bento and teriyaki options for the non sushi or fish eaters, even some vegetarian dishes. All in all, very consistent.
Came again on a spring season sunny Friday evening at 5PM and the place packed full with an hour wait. The immediate shared parking lot was pretty full as well, but there's quite a bit of parking if you don't mind parking around the side toward the library. I'm sure Portland's first warm sunny day of the year might of had something to do with the influx of patrons. Came back another day a bit earlier around 4:30 PM, no problem getting in but was full by 6 PM. Otherwise, nice to have a Mio with easy parking only a few blocks away from where I live. Lots of take out orders and they do accept daily reservations. I definitely see a few more Oregon rolls...
Read moreMio Sushi has many locations along the Northwest but the newest location in Cedar Hills did not fail to surprise me. When I walked in, I noticed the interior of the restaurant. It brought a mix of both warmth and comfort when the server and chefs greeted us. The restaurant has a very open yet subtle ambience and the server was quick on her feet to introduce us to the menu. The menu has a wide variety of options and I can promise you that every single choice on the menu is a beauty. As soon as the drinks started rolling in, I took out my phone to take a picture and I realized that the location of the restaurant had poor data connection. That is no problem for this restaurant. The owners of the restaurant are kind enough to provide FREE WIFI which is on the wall adjacent to the restroom. The atmosphere and service was spectacular and to no surprise, the food was delicious. This is family-friendly restaurant and I can assure you that you will not be disappointed in choosing to come here as your next choice of dining. Thank you Mio Sushi, my time and efforts of coming was...
Read moreWe've eaten dinner at this new location 5 times since their 'soft opening' a few months ago. Their fish is increasingly fresh, beautifully prepared, flavorful, and generous. Their Sushi chefs and this location's owner are welcoming, and service is generally good (they sometimes forget our edamame appetizer when busy).
This location gets an A+ for quality, variety, and value; A for cleanliness; A for Chef and Owner engagement; B+ for service. C minus for Sake selection.
Note that we were also regulars at significantly higher priced Portland sushi restaurants (Momoyama, Yama, Takumi, Mio in Hillsboro). But the Cedar Mill Mio has replaced them all because they serve excellent sushi at reasonable prices, in a...
