I went here for the first time on a Thursday to place a lunch To Go order for my co-worker and me. Knowing it was lunch rush time, I was prepared for a small wait. I was surprised when I walked in at 12:07 pm to see the Diner about 1/3 full, with about half of the patrons already eating. One couple (Couple A) walked in just before me and they were the only ones in line to be seated. The Diner had only 1 server and, what appeared to be 1 bus-person/prep/dishwasher for the building and Couple A was seated after 2-3 minutes. So far so good!
The server came back to me and asked if I was just 1, to which I replied I only wanted to place a To Go order. The server said, ok, handed me a menu and said it would be about 5 minutes. Ok, I expected a small wait and she's alone, so I still don't have any issues. I patiently waited about 3 minutes until Couple B arrived in line behind me. After they had been in the lobby with me for 5 minutes, the woman asked, "do you think we'll get seated today?" To which I stated that there was only 1 server, so I was being patient. I handed them menus so they could have a heads up and something to read while waiting.
About 3 minute later, the server came back to take my order and I allowed her to seat Couple B and told her I'd place my order once they were seated. I finally placed my order after waiting for about 15 minutes. I had paid, the server said the food "Shouldn't take very long. Maybe 20 minutes." I texted my co-worker at 12:26 (19 minutes after entering the building) letting her know the food she expected in the next 15 minutes would be a little late, since I still had a 20 minute wait.
I walked back in the lobby when Couple C came in. I still patiently waited, having expected a small wait anyway. At 12:48 (that's 20 minutes after my order was placed) couple A received their order. The server passed me and said, "they're working on your order. It should just be a few more minutes." I texted my co-worker letting her know I was still waiting, but my order would be next since the couple just in front of me had started eating.
About 5 minutes later, Couple B were served their food. That's when I started to wonder what was going on. 3 minutes after that, Couple C received their food. Now I'm irritated. I'm about to say something when I see the server walk out of the kitchen with my food in To Go boxes. She opens the bag and Couple C calls over to her. She replied, "Just a second!" looked down at my food, then at my bag, and walked over to Couple C to help them.
If you're keeping score, I have now waited close to 20 minutes to order, and over 30 minutes for my food, and it's still sitting on the counter while the server is taking a complaint about the food of customers that came in 5+ minutes after I had ordered. At this point I'm hangry and very frustrated. I walked to the counter and was about to bag my own order when the other front person came out. I asked her to bag my order since I had been waiting 35 minutes. As I turned to walk out, the server asked me "Do you still want your side of sauce?" I replied only if it was ready since I'm already past my lunch time. She said, "Yeah, everybody came in at once." Apparently, "Everybody" is Couple A and I who came in almost an hour ago.
After 55 minutes in the diner, I was finally able to go back to work, late form my lunch break, and still needing to eat.
The food was ok. I ordered the South of the Border B.U.M.B. and my co-worker had the Patty Melt. She seemed to enjoy her food more than me. Maybe I couldn't taste the food as well as since I had to wait so long, and it would have tasted different after 30 minutes (what I expected) instead of 55 minutes.
If I ever decide to try Sunny's Diner Happy Valley again, it will be when I have at least 90 minutes to spend for the entire experience of grabbing a couple hamburgers.
Thanks for reading my personal therapy session!

Read moreWe showed up around 1, expected it to be busy and we’re given a 20 minute wait. We killed the time next door having fun in goodwill and came back to sit and wait another ten minutes while they had multiple open yet dirty tables. I’ve worked in the food and beverage industry for 15+ years and I understand an respect busy periods we were still very polite and when we were seated immediately put our menus to the side (minus the kids menus our littles were coloring). We had been running errands and as soon as we told the waitress we were just sharing French fries with a side of ranch and one Bloody Mary (driving) and water, wanted a snack for th kids so they weren’t fussy in the grocery store between breakfast and lunch and errands with kids are hell….you could feel her attitude change. Waters were brought for the kids only in to go cups. Not small kids cups with lids but large Coca Cola style drink cups for a 4 and 5 year old, which I had to chug down for them so it wouldn’t end up in their laps. About another 15 minutes into them still coloring their menus and our waitress still was no where with our one drink order. At that point another server brought over a basket of fries and asked “who had the fries”? I responded with were sharing them and can we please get some ranch. Obviously everyone went for a fry at that point but after one it was clear that the reason it took so long to hit the table and that another server had to run it out was that it was sitting in the window and was grossly cold and soggy by that point from sitting under the lamps. So for the first time ever I made everyone get up and walk out. I get not every tables going to be a high ticket with a typically high tip percentage but I always tip extremely well and would have made it worth at least a fraction of the effort we were shown...
Read moreWent here for the first time the other day. We (me and 2 others) waited 5+ mins at the hostess stand before anyone talked to or greeted us (despite being walked past and looked at multiple times) and there was nobody else waiting for a table. If I were not with the group I was with, I would have left. After being seated, asking for waters and coffee, we got our drinks but our table was out of vanilla creamer (which the waitress said she would bring when we ordered the coffee). Ended up waiting far too long for refills on the vanilla coffee creamer so we used regular. Not a big deal, but it does speak to the quality of service since there were about 3 waitresses and plenty of empty tables. When she brought our silverware, just about every single utensil was stained but given that was the case for all of them, I wasn’t about to ask for a new set of dirty silverware and wait another 5 mins before I could eat. The food was pretty good and reasonably priced though. French toast with cinnamon bread was delicious, and the slices of bacon were thick. In my opinion, the food took too long and it was obvious our meals were sitting under the heating lamps given the temp of the plates. Again, we waited a while to get to-go boxes and our check. All in all, we should have been out of there in an hour, but it ended up being over an hour and a half meal. I would not go back to a Sunny’s Diner, there are so many other breakfast places that are similarly priced, taste better, and have quality service. I have worked in multiple restaurants, and this place was just...
