Jersey Mike's Leaves Something to Be Desired.
Wanting to save time, I stopped by Jersey Mikes in Lake Orion, MI. All I wanted was a #13 regular sub - not a relationship. The first server kept repeating my order as if he were on the Laverne and Shirley t.v. show assembly line. That was ok. I wasn't expected to engage unless I wanted to. And the man was trying his best to be original.
The second server asked if I wanted it "Mike's Way?" Why should I know or care what "Mike's Way" means? Later the server explained it. Just tell me it means "the works" without making me "work" for it. It's like you've been trained to think I come here all the time.
The third server who processed my payment asked if I wanted to use my "Shore"'points. Why should I know or care what "Shore" points means? Later the server explained it. I just want a sub without a bilateral relationship for the ages! If the staff wants to entertain us with our option to engage, so be it. Don't ask me hipster questions thinking it will engage me to be more loyal.
At the end of the transaction, the third server Asked if I would like my meal to go. Finally, a relevant straight forward question!!! "Yes, please!"
As if my experience at Jersey Mike's, Lake Orion, MI, couldn't get any better, on my way into work the paper bag SPLIT OPEN from all the "Mike's Way" special sauces (vinegret and oil, I assume) AND spilled not only onto my slacks, but partially onto the ground!!! My experience was cursed from the start. I was pleasant and not a jerk in anyway during my order and purchase.
So... In summary:
The staff: Very nice and pleasant though robots of the Corporate tools that run Jersey Mike's.
The store: Clean and well kept.
The price: after tip, paid $9.95 for a $5.50 footlong. I guess I was paying for the atmosphere and Jersey Mike experience.
The Company attempt at a personal experience: Transparent and corporate ALL THE WAY. Keep it real. "Would you like the works on your sub?" Or "Would you like the Jersey Mike works and full toppings on your sub?" And "do you have a Jersey Mike's rewards "Shore"!card where for every sub you buy you get..."
The Brown Paper To Go Bag: I like the attempt at using green materials. But a saturated sub with "Mike's Way" falling out of the brown bag hasn't happened before?
Next time... No way will I go...
Read moreI’m hoping this review will help the ownership course-correct their staff. Jersey Mike’s is a good overall concept. I know they have mostly Gen Z people working and supervising, but here is a huge issue. There is never a time when I order something from this store in Lake Orion, and the order is correct. They do not read the order slips. I place my order through the app. Today, the sandwich I ordered was supposed to have 3 different meats, they only put two. On my order, I asked in special instructions to go easy on the oil and vinegar. I literally watch them put a normal helping of oil and vinegar, and then put a side of it in the bag. As the super was finishing the sandwich I had to tell her to put mayo on the sandwich per the order I had placed. It’s very frustrating that they cannot read a piece of paper and do what it says. It’s not difficult. I really wish there was a Publix in Lake Orion. The sub is half the price and twice the quality. If you’re gonna charge $20 for a sandwich, the least you can do is hold your staff accountable for delivering a quality experience for the customer. Yes I tipped on the app which made me even feel more ripped off.
Update: Management was nice enough to reach out to me about my review and offer restitution for the bad experience, and most importantly said they would make improvements with the staff by having higher expectations when it comes to following order instructions. I will update my review again after my...
Read more3:21pm 6/2 The guy working was absolutely rude. He was speaking quietly and thought he had said the name Bryan so I minded my business. Then the girl (who's very nice) said my name so I looked up and went to grab my order. When I got up there he said "I've called your name 3 times" with a very big attitude and asked if i wanted a bag, I said yes and he grabbed one then decided to just hand me the sandwiches without the bag. Mcdonalds is cheaper and gives wayyy better customer service and they're not grumpy middle aged men.
Edit 6:00pm 6/2 I calmed down and called the store. I spoke to Summer (the girl in the above scenario) and once again was nice and very understanding so my rating went from a 1 star to 4. Still very upset with the man, but I won't let the one bad apple destroy my opinion on the entire place. I just hope he realizes that people could be having a bad day and the wrong attitude could make it even worse...
