Old Detroit Bar and Grille — Restaurant in Orion Charter Township

Generally have had good food at the Old Detroit Bar and Grille in Lake Orion MI on Lapeer Road and spend at least $120 per month ordering food for my family. However, I have a gluten allergy and I always ask the staff if certain items are gluten free. The staff seem very unfamiliar with gluten in general and I never seem to get a safe response. I reviewed this location on another online website making a suggestion for greater staff awareness and for some gluten free options and received a very nasty response from someone at the restaurant. Their response was “I think it is your responsibility to know what you’re ordering and if it is gluten-free or not. If you re so unhappy then We think you need to go find another place.” I was shocked at this response and called and asked for the manager. He refused to provide his name and was short with me in general. After asking for the owners name and contact information several times, all of which he refused, he finally took my name and number and said the owner would call me back. I wasn’t confident that I would get that call, and not surprisingly, I still haven’t. I would NOT recommend this location at all for the mere fact that the manager could have cared less about my inquiry or my business and the rude way that I was responded to in the review. Mediocre service and food. Ordered curbside pickup and added a %20 tip when I paid online. Arrived and no one came out for ten minutes. I was the only car on the lot as the one other car left as I pulled in. Put my mask on to go retrieve my curbside order and was greeted inside by a gentleman on the phone taking an order. Probably overwhelmed and busy, no worries, looked to be working alone, I understand. Got my order and when I got home it didn't get any better. None of the meals were marked (bought five dinners). The fries were undercooked. The soup was either burnt or from the previous day as described by a family member who has been there before. Requested the chili on a burger to be on the side, as this was a pickup order, that was ignored. Requested a plain hotdog for a child, also ignored and filled with toppings. Sadly, overall, the food had potential and I can see where it would be great if more care was given to the preparation and customer requests. This was my first visit and I already don't have a good taste in my mouth. I'm very patient and have a decent history in the service industry. Cost aside, when someone pays for a service with their hard earned money, they expect the best service that vendor can provide. I'll give this place another try in the future, I just hope they aren't always this careless and this was a one off...

If I could give more than five stars for the service, I would. Michelle was phenomenal. We told her that we had just come from performing and we needed to hydrate and she brought us water until we stopped asking for it. Then she brought us exactly the beer we wanted and it was delicious. My friend had a blue moon and I had a Bell's two hearted ale.

My friend and I had neither one eaten anything that day and it took us a minute to figure out what we wanted.

We shared the southwestern egg rolls and thought they were scrumptious.

We got an order of fish tacos to share and Michelle asked if we wanted a fourth one so that we could each have two. She was so thoughtful.

We were interested in the burgers but didn't think either of us could eat a 1/2 lb burger so we decided to share a burger, as well. We got the Russel with cheddar, bacon, BBQ sauce and onion rings, with a side of waffle fries. Michelle brought our burger already on two plates with the generous portion of fries divided between them. I asked for jalapenos to add to mine and she asked if I wanted fresh or pickled. She offered mayonnaise and I asked if she'd ever tried mayonnaise with A1 sauce and she said she would bring it and she brought a bowl so that we could mix up the A1 and the mayonnaise if we wanted.

Honestly, the food was fantastic but I would go back just for that...
