Below is my original review that accompanied 5 stars. In the last several years corporate has made many decisions that have led to decreased quality of the experience as well as the food. They spend money on things like poorly planned decor options (reflective surface under the bar top so women have to worry about their clothing? Weird red and black dungeon makeover of the bathrooms?) rather than on reinvesting in retaining staff. Only one of the people mentioned in my original review still works here and that is only a couple shifts a week when this person and another where previously full time employees who kept their area running like clockwork.
Besides this, the quality and taste of the food have suffered due to shifts in options and recipes. Two signature dishes, egg drop soup and chicken lettuce wraps, have a completely different flavor profile for gluten free diners because of recipe changes. The soup tastes like a basic chicken soup you’d get at diner and the decision to shift sauces to premade instead of in house prepared led to removing gluten free potsticker sauce from the menu. This is a key component in the sauce that comes with the lettuce wraps, and corporate’s solution was to replace it with a toasted sesame sauce which tastes nothing alike and has a burnt flavor to it.
Last year they were pushing the kitchen to get food out at such a pace that there were multiple times I received a dish that was meant to be gluten free but had a noodle or other added ingredient in the mix. This is 100% corporate’s fault for pushing speed over accuracy and quality. The “express lunch” option that they ran for a while was the dumbest thing and greatly decreased the dining experience by asking the servers and kitchen to speed up the dining pace and push people out the door. This is not and should not be the type of restaurant for fast dining. It’s not Panera, and having a CEO who formally helmed that company with a very different business model seems to be at the root of these issues.
This company used to stand behind a reputation of scratch made food that could accommodate a wide variety of dietary needs. It’s the reason I’ve been patronizing this place since 2009, but the continued shift in quality mean that I barely care to visit anymore and really only do for the sake of seeing the friendly staff.
————————— Original review: P.F. Chang's offers a comprehensive menu including a large selection of gluten free dishes safely prepared in separate pans and utensils. These foods are then presented on different plates so people like me who much eat gluten free for health reasons can rest assured they are receiving safe food.
Beyond the great food, the staff is engaging and makes the experience enjoyable. I love to sit in the bar and banter with Alex, Liz, JaKorey, Sean, and my...
Read moreDON’T ORDER from this place! I did not received my order I was charged almost $200 for NOT receiving my order and I was not refunded to this day I had to deal with their internal problems alone for days!
I feel incredibly disappointed after ordering food from P.F. Chang in Orland Park. Personally, I really like their food, but I won’t order from there any more after my last brutal experience. Long story short, I was told that my online order was cancelled because of their system outage. I called the manager of that restaurant to place that order again through the phone, however, I was told it is impossible to do it over the phone and to place that order again online. I explained that their online system did not work and even the manager failed to place an order in his own restaurant…. I was dealing with that issue for almost two hours and It was already past the time of the estimated delivery, so I gave up on my order. I had to explain our 10 healthcare workers (doctors and nurses) that they won’t get their food for lunch, but that was not the end of that story! After I checked my bank account, I realized that I was charged almost $200 and another ~$400 was pending! OK! Great Job! That’s quite a lot for not receiving food and dealing with your system problems!
On my day off I personally went there and I asked the manager for the refund. Surprisingly, I was told that they don’t have my money and I should wait couple more days to see it the problem resolves itself. It did not! It’s been almost 10 days and I feel like I was left alone with a problem that should not be my problem in the first place. All I wanted was good food for our hard working doctors and nurses and instead of that I received tons of issues and nobody seems to care about it. That was my worst customer service experience and If you don’t want to lose your money, don’t...
Read moreIt's been quite some time since my last visit to any P.F. Chang's location, so long that none of my kids remembered eating there previously. I had a craving for them because the night before, I ordered lettuce wraps as an appetizer at Cooper's Hawk, and they were the worst lettuce wraps I have ever had. If nothing else, I always have remembered how good they are at P.F. Chang's, but unfortunately not tonight. That also seemed to be the theme for everything tonight. All the food lacked flavor and seasoning, so much so that it made Panda Express feel like gourmet. The chopsticks are really cheap now just like the ones you can pick up for free if you ever buy sushi from your local grocery store. Our waitress was not attentive and even went on to apologize as she said her mind was not at work. I had to ask multiple times for drink refills and a replacement for a flat root beer for my son and for glasses, plates, and even menus to be taken off of my table well after we received our main course. The only time she was attentive was after she dropped our bill coming back almost immediately to ask me directly how I'd like to pay and stood there while I got a credit card out. She clearly had other places to be. Irritated, I went to the washroom only to push the men's door open and get some sticky substance all over my hands. From beginning to end, my family's experience was poor. I always remembered this place fondly, but not so much anymore. I hope the other locations are better than the Orland Park location in some of the other areas mentioned, but I doubt the food quality is given it is a chain restaurant. Whatever your business model was years ago P.F. Chang's, go back to it. You may once again have a wait time on a Saturday night, unlike tonight, where there were empty tables, and I was able to walk in and be...
