TL;DR: Best chicken salad sandwich I've ever had!!! Perfect lunch spot.
My wife and I stopped in on a whim because we were perusing the surrounding shops. Upon entering, I got the âmomâs kitchenâ vibes. Small with organized chaos, yet somehow clean and charming.
I asked the lady working there what the best sandwiches and smoothies were as it was our first visit. She responded that she only makes food she likes and wouldnât make anything she didnât like herself. A bold and slightly odd statement to say the least coming from someone who just works there. But after further discussion, we decided on two chicken salad sandwiches and a smoothie she tailored for us based on what we were in the mood for.
Friendly, bold and accommodating staff. So far so good.
She first presented the smoothie in a sealed Gatorade-like bottle. And, after twisting off the cap and having the first sip⌠We knew weâd be back. The custom smoothie she crafted for us was a mango, raspberry, banana smoothie with the perfect kick of ginger. Refreshing, cold, and healthy. It tasted fresh. The fruits clearly werenât frozen from last month. My wife said it was the best smoothie sheâs ever had.
It only got better when we smelled the artisan bread toastingâŚ
Shortly after, she presented the sandwiches. They were both decadent, two-layered works of art. Literally the best chicken salad sandwich Iâve ever had! My mouth is watering as I reminisce several days later. The 3 slices of bread were toasted to perfection - not too crunchy, not too soft. The chicken did not have that previously-frozen texture that some smoothie restaurants have. It was perfectly flavored and uniquely spiced. Definitely not your basic white chicken salad! It also was generously garnished with sprouts, which is IMHO always classy and tasty on a sandwich.
The sandwiches came with a side of fresh blueberries and strawberries. Also, super fresh and probably the best berries Iâve had in a while.
We were blown away with the fresh quality and flavors. The meal tasted so good and didnât come with the heavy stomach or sleepiness that often accompanies delicious foods.
As a young man, I was definitely satisfied with the portions even though the sandwich looks smallish (from an arial view). I didnât feel stuffed, but also didnât feel wanting afterwards. Healthy portion sizes for sure.
We were the only customers at the time, so we started chatting with Nice (Nee-See), the worker. Based on how she talked to us about the menu and foods, I asked her if she owned the place. And, as expected, she is the sole owner of the restaurant. Her love for cooking definitely shows itself in the food she crafted for us.
As we chatted longer, we found out more about her story. Inspiring is an understatement! As she may not want her life story on a Google Review, Iâll just sum it up by stating that there needs to be a movie about her. We enjoyed talking to her so much. Her company was just as magical as the food she served!
She gave us a sample of her avocado smoothie since we debated on getting one earlier. I was surprised. I wouldnât really call it a smoothie, but more like a pudding because it was so thick. I ended up eating most of the sample with a spoon. It wasnât as cold as a normal smoothie either. Not sure if it was just because it was a sample or what. But, the flavor was amazing! Avocado fans take notice! My only suggestion for it would to make it colder and served/sold as a pudding, as drinking it was honestly kind of weird. It was definitely not a Tropical Smoothie Avocolada. It was more avocado-y, simpler, healthier, and IMHO tastier and more unique. Next time we go, Iâll get the avocado smoothie, but try to get it in a cup with a spoon instead of bottled.
And for dessert, we tried her homemade brownies topped with a scoop of Talenti vanilla ice cream. Sublime for sure!
So, in nutshell, definitely check out Equilibre! It is a Winter Park hidden gem. Excellent place for lunching. I look forward to being...
Read moreFeeling like I should have dug a little deeper in the reviews before I tried. The young lady taking orders in front was nice, but who I assumed to be the owner wasnât pleasant at all. At first she looked me dead in the face but didnât acknowledge me, then she kept walking/brushing past me without saying excuse me like I didnât just pay $35 plus tip. As I was waiting for my food a family was leaving and she smiled at them, had a short convo (in Spanish, looking at me you wouldnât be able to tell Iâm fluent) and thanked them for coming in, then gave me another mean look. Very racist vibes. I thought I would be offered vegan options or something due to the name and reviews. Ordered the Equilibre smoothie. Great texture but the ginger was way too overpowering, coming from someone that loves ginger. I had to go home and add more fruits. I was given a bag of potato chips with my salmon salad sandwich. Iâm not sure how slabbing Helmanâs mayonnaise all over is considered healthy. Sandwhich could have done without it. Made the flavour mediocre. Also tried the prosciutto quiche. It wasnât bad, just super salty. Prosciutto is already salty lol no need to add more. Idk..the flavour combinations are just not it and it shouldnât take 25 minutes to make a cold sandwich. Iâve been waiting for a day off for weeks to stop here and try the food out. Iâm just...
Read moreOne of the worst restaurants I have ever visited. I went in with my sister, she orders her food and the women taking our order walked away, and we told her that I still need to order food. She said she would be back and afterwards came back and wanted to know what my sister wants to drink. She explained that she would like the free coffee that comes with your lunch, but hereâs where the trouble starts. The language barrier is huge. So bad that she doesnât know that creamer is and gets another associate ( I assume the owner) who also doesnât know what creamer is and offers packets of sugar.
At this point I realize Iâm never going to order my food and just decide to skip lunch. After waiting 20 minutes on ONE SANDWICH, we get our food in a comically large sized bag and leave.
The issue is the language barrier. Literally they do not understand what you want because of it. They donât even have creamer apparently. But the bizarre thing is that there are hand written signs in English. So there must be someone there who speaks English fluently.
The sandwich was mediocre at best. I wouldnât even recommend this place to my worst enemy....
