After many years of Taglish being gone, and many more years since being able to enjoy their location in the Lotte Market, I heard that it was re-opening in a new food hall. So, opening day came around, and I was there. Not first in line. Actually, last in line. I was literally their last customer of the day, sorry guys.
But anyway, the place looked awesome. A bright sign, a cool looking hangout bar, an open kitchen, very cool. Being counter service, the service was pretty good. The owner himself took my order. Super nice fellas.
I got my ube horchata, get it, sat down, and waited for my entirely way too much food.
Started off with the Lumpia (Pork and shrimp filling). Long, hot, crispy, a delicious filling within. These are the lumpia dreams are made of. If you've never had lumpia, come see what anyone with a Filipino co-worker dreams of when it comes to work potlucks.
Then came the Pancit (Filipino style vermicelli and Cantonese style noodles). Another staple. Lots of good umami and acid and salty and delicious. Interesting use of two kinds of noodles. A really fun dish.
Thenn came the Garlic Fried Rice (Scrambled egg, green onions). If you don't love garlic, don't get this. I meant it. But if you do like garlic, you must get this. It was deep in the garlic, fluffy rice, sesame seeds to break up the texture. Big fan.
And then my main event, told you I got too much food, the Pork Abodo Rice Bowl (Soy & vinegar braised pork shoulders). Looking back, I'm not sure it wasn't deep fried pork belly on top of my rice. It was a while ago. But either way, it was delicious. A good amount of protein, nice, fluffy rice.
Overall, everything I touched was delicious. I think I only ate half the menu, though. I'll have to go back...
Read moreDISAPPOINTMENT! My Filipina wife and I are always excited to try any Filipino restaurant but this place was a disaster from the get-go. We immediately sat at their so called bar/eating area, there was also tables available but I was confused on how to order so I figure I’d sit closer to the staff, cook and waitress. We were never greeted or directed on how to order until 10 min later when I approached them with a confused look. I was directed to order at the cash register then they will bring the food to us. We ordered the pandesal with ubi butter, lumpia which had shrimp and pork served with mixed ketchup/mayo and not sweet chili sauce, pork adobo, and beef tapa which came in a power bowl and not as a plate. . I was so tempted to get the mango/calamansi drink but at $6.50 for a small it wasn’t worth it The pandesal was good especially the ubi butter. However, for me not serving sweet chili with my lumpia was not a good start. We got 3 pieces 10” long but very skinny lumpia but the taste not so good. I actually make better. The power bowls, again, not so good. Very cheap and small on the serving size and over compensating on the rice to make the appearance that you’re getting a lot for the price but that is SO FAR from the truth. The price of all this was $20 more than what it should have been and that was the icing on my decision to never go back and to write such a review to warn others to BE WARNED. No wonder why they were booted out of their previous location near Lotte in Orlando. Good luck on your survival if you continue with this...
Read moreIt's in a food court at an Asian market so don't be discouraged by our lower star ratings on service and atmosphere.
Food is absolutely excellent and they have returned to the menu certain popular items such as bangus and that makes us all happy.
It's not the lowest price around but you're getting specialty food cooked Filipino style with authentic ingredients and that counts for a lot.
The combinations are pretty good. For appetizers, lumpia are great and barbecue anything are great.
Not really any bad choices here except the plain ordinary stuff that is designed for non Filipino eaters, for example, I think they have a hamburger on the menu and I would not eat that.
But even the spaghetti is pretty good and it's Pinoy style which is pretty much ketchup and hot dogs for the sauce, but that's how it's eaten back home so that's how we like to get it here and it's perfectly good and if you're hungry for it and you're shopping there at the market then this is a good place to stop.
It's self-service and sometimes you have trouble finding a table there in the food court or you have to share a table but that usually works itself out...
