Veryā¦.disappointing. Iām a breakfast guy. Itās my favorite meal of the day and if I could have breakfast for every meal, I would. But my wife wonāt let me. š
So when Eggdose popped up on my IG feed and saw it was in Orlando, I knew we had to go. So we went, and boy, were we both absolutely gutted.
First, the wait-time: Honestly, not too bad considering these are not your typical McMuffin or even Einsteinās sandwich. Staff was nice, not rude. No complaints there. For two sandwiches, we waited maybe 7 or 8 minutes. We ordered the Maple Dose & The Mexican.
Second, the pricing: This is where for me personally, things started going downhill. Weāre not people who mind spending a fair bit of money if the quality is there. With the added picanha ($4 up-charge) to The Mexican, no drinks, no sides, just two sandwiches, we spent roughly $31 after tax. š¤Æ
Thatās fine. We expected that. After all, itās Orlando. It is what it is. This will surely be worth it, right?ā¦
Third, the quality: This is where I was hurt. š The Maple Dose sandwich was so utterly bland. They give you a little container of syrup to douse the sandwich with, but Iām telling you, no amount of syrup or powdered sugar would have saved it. A little salt and pepper would have gone a long ways. Somehow the bacon didnāt even have flavor. Iām not sure what was going on there. The only part I enjoyed was the cheese. They seem to be using really nice quality cheddar cheese here. But for $13, the Maple Dose was NOT it.
The Mexican (my wifeās sandwich) was what ALMOST saved this meal. Itās almost like they tried emulating Chilaquiles, which is a staple Mexican dish, but in a sandwich. And let me tell you, they almost pulled it off. The flavors were there, the gooeyness of the fried egg yolk bursting and combining with the rest of the sandwhichā¦
What we noticed was the ultimately disappointing decision to use regular tortilla chips (like the bagged kind), rather than hand cutting tortillas and frying them themselves on the spot. It just felt rather lazy. I understand that with the wait times, they probably HAVE to cut corners somewhere to make sure orders get out in a timely manner. However, if thatās the case, then again, lower the prices! Try to get all these sandwiches as close to the $10 mark or even $9.99 if possible. Thereās no good reason the Maple Dose shouldnāt be under $10.
Iām sure theyāre doing just fine. I realize Iām going to sound bitter and overly picky here, but we need more good breakfast sandwich places around!! I donāt see enough of them trying to do what Eggdose is doing. They have the branding, the marketing, the menu. They just have to refine the flavors and/or ingredients, and adjust pricing. I could see them opening brick & mortars left and right (if thatās even...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreVisually, my bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich was stunning, very Instagramable; however eating it was a bit less enjoyable. The brioche bun was a lil on the doughy side and could have used a longer toast to crisp it up. The eggs were very bland, barely even tasted salted, and there was a tiny piece of shell in them too. The hollandaise was a bit tangier/sour than I prefer. On the plus side, the bacon was plentiful and pleasantly crispy.
Aside from the sandwich looking better than it tasted, the part I found least pleasant was the whole experience I had at the Food Hall. Parking is a nightmare, firstly. Secondly, Eggdose opens for breakfast, but the Food Hall doesnāt open until 11am, meaning if you arrive at Eggdose anytime between 8am-10:59am, there will be no option for indoor seating. I was there around 10:30am and it was already hot & sunny out, and since the seating is not really covered, the sun just baked down on me the whole time I waited for my sandwich and the whole time I ate my sandwich. If you come here before 11am anytime other than Winter, I would suggest taking...
