ATROCIOUS! Zenon had almost the same experience was as my girlfriend and I. This is my first Google review and I'm only taking the time so to protect my fellow cape codders and tourist alike. Furthermore I wouldn't be taking the time had the 'owner' taken any responsibility for the bad food but kept insisting we try them again. Never!
Here is what happened. We walk into a mostly empty restaurant around 8:05pm, they close at 9pm. We are ignored for a bit while the two wait staff socialize and share photos with an older lady to the side. I had to great the bartender with a "Hello, how are you?" Since she could care less and was clearly busy thinking about the past conversation eager to return. We order drinks and food together because we knew they closed soon, she showed no concern for this either as she proceeded to make only my girlfriends drink then return to the conversation. She then made two more customers drinks then realized she hadn't put in our food as we watched her do then realize she hadn't made my drink yet.
I ordered a shot of tequila with a lime. I got tequila poured over ice with a lime.
We ordered coconut fried shrimp app. They tasted like oil fried in oil. No shrimp taste, no meaty bite. Gross but we hadn't eaten all day so we ate them.
Later the Taco Sampler and Birria Tostas came out. The Tostas was okay but missing the Birria sauce to dip so pretty dry and flavorless. The Taco Sampler was gross. I noticed my girlfriend being picky and she isnt like that.
I then asked "How is it?" Since our bartender never once asked us how the food was. She gave me a face and said it was really dry so I tried it. It was cold, dry and flavorless.
She ate one taco and a bite of one more. Gross. Also her banana peppers were rotten. I tried a bite and had to spit it out.
I tried to have her have my sandwich but we both only made it though a few bites of that.
Leaving most of our meal uneaten I pushed them forward and waited. The still unattentive staff didn't notice them pished forward until I spoke up. I told her we arent paying for those two and they are very bad and those peppers need to be thrown out.
She called her 'boss' seeming to not know how to void the meal. But not too long later that older blonde lady showed up to ask us about the food.
"So you didn't like the food?" She said.
We then proceeded to tell her about our experience to which she kept making excuses for the results. We decided to pay for the shrimp but since we had the 'owner' infront of us I decided to tell her that it seemed the oil needed to be changed and they tasted like a fried butter stick. She again made an excuse. As if I've never eaten a butterflied coconut fried shrimp before.
I decided not to inform her about the bad service because most of that bad service was her fault by distracting her staff.
I honestly doubt this older women is the owner given the amount of carelessness she has for Las Chidas. Who ever funded thia business should take account of your partners...
Read moreMy friend and I were excited to try this place but I wish I had read the reviews first and not bothered. First I do want to say that both the owner and staff were very friendly and attentive. My only issue was that they asked is to move (after we were done eating but had full drinks) because the establishment is so small that our table was the only one that could be combined with another to accommodate a larger party. The owner was very apologetic about it and offered us one free piece of cake for the inconvenience. The service, I would say was the best part of the meal. The atmosphere is mediocre. My friend drinks but I am sober. We sat out on the porce (plasticed in with heaters that are either on or off. They are not able to turn them down at all). I was better with sitting out there than inside, which is really just a bar with a few adsitional tables. There was nothing offensive about the atmosphere but also nothing inviting. Now for the food. Have you ever paid $100 for 2 taco's? Well now I can say I have. I AM EXAGGERATING, so let me explain. When you are going into what you think is a taco joint and the server tells you that they come with NOTHING else; no rice, no beans, not even a basket of chips... my bad, I just didn't even pay attention to the cost if the tacos at that point because how much could they possibly be, right?! Wrong! Pay attention here guys. Now granted, my friend had 2 margarita's, so that was a quick $24. But I drank only water; we each had 2 taco's and ordered a basket of chips and salsa to share while we waited. Our bill before the tip was $76! As for the quality of the food: These tacos are small. She ordered the chicken tacos. They were not bad but not great either. Bland without much flavor (I tried a bite). I order the mushroom taco, which I desperately wanted to LOVE, because I do love me some mushrooms. But the flavor combination, no matter how hard I tried to like it, just didnt come together for me. There was a tomato pumpkin seed paste with it, which intrigued me and I do really think was good with the mushrooms, but the fresh herb mix on top was what was too strong, too greasy and didn't blend well with the other flavors (obviously my opinion only) The presentation was decent, considering that the only thing on the plate was two tacos. I feel bad because I like to promote local businesses whenever I can but I will be shocked if this place is opened next winter. I suppose they may have a market with all the influx of people moving here permanently (post Covid world on Cape Cod) and are used to city cost of living. Unfortunately if this keeps happening the new norm will drive out those of us who have been struggling to live here year round our whole lives. Final bill, $97. I tip well regardless of the meal because I have crazy respect for our local workers and she did...
Read moreWe live full time on Cape Cod, and I was excited about trying this relatively new restaurant; particularly since I enjoy Mexican style food. I could not have been more disappointed! The bar manager (who was the only person in the place) could not have been less friendly. Since it was my first time there, I decided to try the taco sampler, to get a sense of the food. Though 3 small tacos cost $18, they were absolutely tasteless. Actually, since I did take-out, I considered just throwing them out. When I got home I mentioned the experience to my wife who decided to call the restaurant and speak with the owner rather than my writing a review. The owner shared that she didn't really care for the sampler herself and was intending to remove it from the menu in the future and expressed surprise that her bar manager was so unfriendly(especially since she and I were the only two people in the restaurant). She thanked my wife for not writing a review and suggested that we "try them again". I thought that was a poor response from an owner of a new restaurant hoping to build a following. I can only assume she feels she can thrive off of unsuspecting tourists. Suffice it to say that we will not be "trying them again" after her response and in all good faith we cannot recommend this restaurant to friends...
