Billy's Tap Room & Grill — Restaurant in Ormond Beach

This evening, my wife and I decided to finally stop by that "Cute little place on Granada" that we've passed at least 1000 times since we moved here from TX about a year and a half ago. Not sure what to expect, we called and made a reservation for 7:30 on a Friday night and were pleasantly surprised to be seated almost immediately when we arrived. We sat in the dining room, but there was a solo acoustic act playing in the "Tap Room" that made the ambiance perfect. My Wife ordered the Grouper and I ordered the "Billy's Cut" Filet au poivre. My wife started off with a salad, and I, a bowl of New England Clam Chowder. Again, a pleasant surprise, fresh, delicious, and we didn't have to wait long. When the entrees came, (exactly on time, someone was paying attention), I cut into the center of my filet to reveal a beautifully prepared medium-rare cut that made my mouth water before it even passed my lips. The au poivre was a great compliment, I highly recommend it. Taste was phenomenal, as was my wife's dish. She had scallops, grouper and crab on this plate, and even though she's 5 foot nothing and 100 and nothing, she easily cleared the plate stating it was some of the best she ever had.

Service - attentive and very pleasant, never left us wanting or needing anything. Glasses stayed full, everything was fired on perfect timing.

Ambiance - Easy to tell why this is a favorite of the local crowd. Since 1922 Billy's has been providing this level of quality and service, and sitting in the dining room, the old booths, warm wood interior as well as the beautiful, historic Ormond Beach photographs, easily send you back to a simpler time.

Been here once before with my gf and loved it, tonight celebrating my 21 yr old son's Bday I now regret choosing this place. Service by Faith was less then stellar and at this time in the evening with not many tables she was very absent. I had to go to the bar to refresh my own cocktail as my server was incognito! To reiterate how inattentive our server was, the menus remained on our table throughout our ENTIRE visit, despite stacking our dirty dishes on them in hopes Faith would take them, but no luck. Dinner was mediocre tonight, had the special bourbon beef ribs upcharge for asparagus at the cost of $5 and that was a GREAT DISAPPOINMENT one of 6 spears we're of good size the others were the thinnest I've ever seen and not appropriate for a restaurant of this stature! The bread was "in the oven" upon arrival and never came out until much later and only after I had to inquire about it to my waitress, Faith. The breaded mushroom appetizer was meh although I was told it was very good, the frog legs were very good four to a serving and we enjoyed those. The salad was not as good as the previous visit. And the special beef ribs were actually in my opinion not worthy of the cost. Baked potato is awesome as last time but how hard is that to make. I'm embarrassed to have taken my son there after talking up this place to him. This will not be my first choice the next time I dine out for a quality meal and service. I feel this bad experience could have been avoided had my last server, Patrick been working as he is SO attentive and pleasant and an amazing asset to this restaurant. TERRIBLE. Took our daughter to Billy’s for what I hoped would be a beautiful eve. Celebrating her upcoming wedding . Reservation at 6:30pm. Arrived 6:20 pm. Seated. Not many people there . Ordered drinks and then………… worse service ever had. We ordered 3 filet migon dinners ( not cheap ) and we sat at our table from 6:30 pm til 8:30 pm. NO FOOD Only waiter trying to hide from us or lies ( said steaks (all 3. Burned ??). Ok. So we waited. Still no food Table if 12 and other tables getting food. Dessert etc. we still very nice and patient waiting. Nothing. I felt so bad for my daughter ( she was excited to celebrate here ). Well she was so disappointed and sad. Waiter lied again after 11/2 hr waiter lied again saying manager would come talk to us. We waited. Come to find out. No “manager “ there. Finally 2 HOURS later smallest fillet ever seen 30 plus dollars each 4 tiny red potatoes and couple green beans. Told him taking to go Don’t ask me why I was so nice and patient ??? Guess didn’t want to make daughters eve any worse than Billy’ s did Customers all saw what was going on and offered to pay for our dinners to go. They felt bad for us as well. We are a resident of Ormond beach. NEVER heard an apology from owner or try to make it right , private messaged owner Nothing !!! So upsetting a local would treat anyone , an ormond resident especially this way. I have many other restaurant owners that want the business and recommendations, guess Billy’s don’t care. Shame.
