We were on the area & stopped in for lunch (our 1st time here). It was very nice ... from beginning to end. The atmosphere was very nice ... spotless with friendly servers, pleasant oriental music, a good menu with lots of choices, excellent food and reasonable prices. I chose shrimp from the hibachi lunch selections (tuna & other meat choices were also available) which came with soup and salad plus a choice of steamed or fried rice. The shrimp was served over rice noodles and the veggies portion of this shrimp dish had zucchini, yellow squash, carrots, onions and broccoli florets made in a very appealing teriaki"ish" type brown sauce. The soup was a tasty beef broth and the small salad was served with a ginger house dressing. We were also "treated" to a small "nibble" dish similar to a tiny roll made with a tasty immitation chunk crab sitting on a thin mild, very pleasant tasting white sauce. The complete meal was a lot of food, but very good. Hubby chose a poke bowl that gave him a choice of shrimp or tuna or other meats, plus 5 other items of his choice. He chose edemame, mango, cucumber, carrots and seasoned seaweed over a salad base instead of rice and hibachi shrimp topped the dish. As a diabetic, the option of a salad base pleased him a lot. ALL the choices of this poke bowl were well made (the chef's knife skills were amazing with paper thin slices and some carrots pieces that you could almost see thru!) and the poke bowl and my hibachi shrimp dish was extremely pleasing to the eye when served as well as very fresh, crisp and tasty. We each had non-alcoholic beverages. This lunch for both of us ran $31.xx. I couldn't finish mine so I brought the remainder home .. It was too good to leave! Hubby ate every bite. If you enjoy sushi, shashimi, oriental and poke bowl cuisine, it's absolutely worth a try. We will...
Read moreI’d give 2 stars for the food but that’s not fair because we didn’t have the sushi. Maybe come here for sushi but don’t come here for Japanese food. I’m Japanese and I brought my Okinawan cousin here wanting comfort food. This is the 3rd self-proclaimed Japanese restaurant we’ve tried in the area and so far we haven’t found real Japanese food. This was an Americanized sushi restaurant. They did not have teriyaki, tempura or udon on the menu. Forget nishime, butter fish or soba. Prices were good for lunch, portions were plentiful, but we left half our bland food on our plates.
They specially made a mixed shrimp and vegetable tempura appetizer for us even though tempura isn’t on the menu, because they do make tempura for the sushi. The tempura was tough in some spots (excess batter, and the batter recipe was heavy); the hibachi chicken and noodles were bland; the katsu sauce was salty and dark (it’s supposed to be sweet and tangy); the white mayo sauce “for the tempura” was like Pollo Tropical’s garlic sauce but was made with visible garlic powder and Miracle Whip or a sweet mayonnaise thinned out; and the lunch special soup was clear soup, not miso soup.
The restaurant was clean; our server was efficient and capable; the staff was nice enough to accommodate our tempura request; the bathroom was clean. The background music was current Chinese pop hits. My husband liked the candies in the bowl at the front. Nice koi mural...
Read moreReally surprisingly delicious and NICE generous portions!! The salmon teriyaki dinner was literally for two, with a huge amount of veggies, large bowl of rice, and TWO large filets of salmon all only for $21. Also got edamame as an appetizer (always remember to request lemon to squeeze on top! Makes it even better), and they were kind enough to hand out complimentary soups AND a complimentary appetizer snack of tempura crab with spicy mayo on top - which was a fun surprise (and tasty)! We also got the volcano roll and another salmon based roll I can't remember (it wasn't the Alaska roll, but similar) both of which were amazing. Friendly fast service, the staff was all working together to provide service to all tables which is a great system. It's a perfect quaint size, and was busy with nearly all tables full upon arrival at about 7pm on a Saturday with a lot of people picking up takeout orders the whole time. They even gracefully handled a situation at the hostess stand of an outside patron (seemed to be on a substance or struggling financially) who came in causing some issues, and discreetly called the police without a huge scene. But besides that random event.. when it comes to the food, service, hospitality, and atmosphere... Overall...
