Been here 3 times in 3 months. And never going back again.
First time, I thought was a fluke. Ordered a chirashi (which is sashimi on top of rice) and it was the oldest, mushiest tasting fish I ever had. Some of it seemed an off, color and was warm to the touch. I couldnt even finish it. I figured that maybe it was because I came on a tuesday, and they probably havent recieved a shipment of fresh fish until the weekend. That was the food.
The service was another thing. I had some rude old lady serving me. I've literally never had worse service in my life. She has no idea how to talk to customers respectfully, and her service was slow and kept making mistakes. She never said sorry, just kept making excuses.
But, I am a fair person, so I tried it again. I was served by this kind young man (who said he was the new manager), and he was extremely attentive. I told him about my last experience, and he profusely apologized even though he mentioned he wasn't working there at the time, and offered me to try some lessor known things on the menu. I had a grilled fish and grilled calamari and it was so tasty. There were a bunch of other things that me and my coworkers ordered, but those were the ones that were memorable. My coworker complained about one of the items, and the manager said he paid for it himself, and apologized for the inconvenience. It was a kind gesture. We ended up talking for a while about his plans for the restaurant, and to bring in a special chef for a monthly special menu, and all sorts of things. It sounded like he had a good head on his shoulders and I was excited to see what would be in store for the restaurant.
I came back a third time yesterday, and it seems like the manager no longer works there anymore. But the same old lady was walking around yelling at everyone. I feel like she doesnt actually know how to run a business. But anyway, since it was thursday, one could assume that fresh fish would be in for the weekend. So I had ordered some cooked food and some sushi. And sadly, this was more discolored than the first time I had come. I mentioned it and was laughed off. No sorry, nothing.
I dont know whats going on with this restaurant, but I wont be back.
I do wonder if that manager was fired or if he left on his own, but he was the reason I came a third time, and unfortunately I wont be back again. It's a shame since I live right next to it, but honestly I'd rather drive 30 minutes away for decent sushi.
Tip to owners/sushi chefs: Pay more attention to the quality of the fish you buy, and the quality of the sushi you serve customers. This may be Oswego, but we aren't stupid. And if that old lady isn't the owner, you really need to fire her. She has no clue how to take care of...
Read moreThe food was tasty, but the service ruined the experience. We were there at 915 on a sat night, only 1 other table occupied, with sushi bar filled as well. Our server Zack took our order. Since first time and having a higher price point, we ordered small to try out. Yummy roll, chicken tempura, and chicken fried rice. Food came, no rice, said it was coming. 10 min later, Had to flag down Zack, never stopped by table to see how things going; asked about rice, still coming; finally arrived 15 min after all other food came and had been consumed. Then I'm eating my fried rice, wife is just staring at me and her empty soda glass...once again, Zack couldn't bother to leave the other side of restaurant. Finished my rice, now we are both just sitting here....finally comes over, both my water and her soda glass very empty, but now just want to get out of there. Food was very tasty; but with a price point that high, i expect service to be at same level. We will try again, but...
Read moreTook 10 min to be greeted and to order drinks, then the server left before we could order our apps. We ordered one (chicken) soup, a reg. House salad, and a seaweed salad, when she came back with our drinks. The house salad showed up about 5 min after that (avg. time), then my (tiny) seaweed salad about another 5 min later (not avg.). (For the same price, Swordfish in Batavia serves a nearly identical seaweed salad, but theirs is at least 3 times the size.) We ordered our sushi when the first salad arrived, but it took over 30 min to finally be delivered. My soup ended up finally being delivered a few min after the sushi. Over all, the food was mediocre and over priced. Not sure why it has a 4.8 rating. The other sushi restaurant in Montgomery, off of rte 34, has higher quality EVERYTHING and great servers/employees, yet it only has a 4.1 rating. I highly recommend going elsewhere rather than this...
