Kalaveras — Restaurant in Oxnard

I should have known something was up when I saw how many conflicting reviews this place has. This is going to be a detailed review but bear with me. I'll start by saying, this place has the atmosphere of one of the club/restaurants in Ensenada/Rosarito. So if you don't like LOUD music, go somewhere else. No big deal, we were there for a birthday. Despite being seated quickly as a group of 6, we waited 45-50 minutes just to put in drinks. Not ONCE did our server come over and say "thanks for your patience I'll be right with you" or anything like that. I understand that restaurants are busy, but it is not okay to leave people hanging like that. It then took another 50 minutes for our food to come out. But don't worry, if you order shots , they take priority for those and making their whole little instagram dance show. The food was actually good, it's a shame we couldn't;t enjoy it fully because we were starving by the time we got it.

It felt like nobody in this restaurant was an experienced server at all. And lastly, we had one person put down their card and were told that they can split the total between cards but no they won't divide up the bill based on what we ordered. We witnessed our server leave the card in various spots around the restaurant and bar which is absolutely not okay. Someone could have snapped a photo of his card info.

It's worth noting that a friend of mine was there 30 minutes before us and said everything came out quickly and received great service. So it's a VERY inconsistent place. I really can't see reason to return when there are plenty of other great Mexican...

My friend and I just left Kalaveras in Oxnard. The interior of the restaurant is quite spacious, with plenty of seating options, which is definitely a plus! However, we were seated in what seemed to be the only available area at the time.

Unfortunately, the table next to us had a couple of patrons who were speaking very loudly, using quite a bit of profanity. While I don't mind colorful language in the right context, it became uncomfortable as the negativity in their conversation was hard to ignore.

I decided to mention my discomfort to our lovely waitress, hoping for a change in seating. However, she informed us that the rest of the area had already been cleaned and that was the only section left for us to sit in.

While I appreciate the staff’s effort to keep things tidy, I wish there had been a more comfortable option available. It would have made for a much more enjoyable, first dining experience there. Despite the atmosphere issues, the overall space is great, and I believe if they can address seating arrangements during not so busy times, it could make a significant difference for future guests.

I will definitely not be coming back as it seems like employees don’t care about...

False advertising of their $4.99 Margarita Monday that is heavily promoted on their social media platforms as available at ALL locations! The female server on December 16, 2024 stated that they have never done such promotion before. I shared that I had previously enjoyed their $4.99 Margarita Monday promotion on September 2, 2024. The server stood put and restated they’ve never done such promotion before due to city denying them to sell for such price. Anyway, I decide to speak to the manager/supervisor on site, and he immediately tells me the Instagram post (photo attached in this review) was an old post. By the way, the word available is misspelled on that flyer. I mean, come on now! I showed him the story and its timestamp of 5 hours ago. Now, he did admit to having done such promotion in the past whereas the server said the complete opposite. Not only false advertising, but also inconsistent communication within employees, and lack of professionalism within the establishment as a whole. There was no proactive approach to solving this issue to best serve the customers despite the inconvenience which is why my party and I left. Awfully...
