Waterside Restaurant — Restaurant in Oxnard

We had a rehearsal dinner at Waterside for my best friend’s wedding on May 16, and I was blown away by how great everything was. The manager and staff were amazing, and handled our large party with such professionalism. The manager personally helped me many times, grabbing an extra table/table cloth to set up the event decor, showing me the best places for photos in the private room, and even finding me a place to charge my phone.

The atmosphere was just perfect for our party, and we loved having the sunset/water be the backdrop of the party. I was nervous about the lower temperatures when I first walked in, however it was very comfortable the entire time.

I’m gluten free and dairy free, and the staff brought out a tray of vegetables just for me with so I could enjoy the hummus appetizer with the other guests. The blackberry margarita was one of my favorite drinks I had the whole trip.

As a former restaurant manager, I know how labor intensive large private parties can be, & how easy it can be for the staff to overwhelmed. However, our entire party was so well attended to the multiple hours we were there. There was always at least one staff in the private room at all times, so we never a time where we had to hunt down someone for a service request. They deserve recognition for making this very special night so memorable.

Every single thing I ate was so delicious, and while I couldn’t have many of the dishes the family selected, the guests around me were absolutely raving each time a new item came out for them to try. Won't be returning. In all my years of dining out I've never felt so out of place and unwanted. We had been on the beach most of the day and I guess our dress code was not up to the staff and customers liking since I've never received so many dirty looks in any establishment from both staff and guests. This restaurant is obviously one of those fluffy, liberal eateries that are only for 'certain' types of people. Entitled white people that sit around downing wine while complaining about having to fire another nanny. I made the mistake of wearing my comfy camouflage shorts and camouflage fishing hat. My wife made the mistake of wearing her new 'Girls Love Guns' shirt and an American flag hat. Big mistake, I've never felt so much hate directed at us. We asked for a seat near the glass and as the waitress took us there, the owner ran over and put reserved signs on all the open tables. How hypocritical of liberals to claim how 'tolerant' they are while obviously discriminating against others by how they look. We got our food and it was mediocre at best. This is one of those spots that thinks tiny servings that look artful is more important than feeding a person with decent food. The bratwurst sandwich was gross, who puts sausage between garlic bread and some butter looking spread? My wife's chicken breast was bite size and appeared to be a slice of a breast not a breast. Have been to this restaurant every Sunday for the last 6 months and it had been a wonderful experience until this past Sunday. The food was good as always, however, the service was extremely terrible. There were 3 people in our group and the place was not crowded. Drinks were ordered first which took about 20 minutes to arrive, but one wine glass was missing for the wine. The missing glass arrived about ten minutes later. The food was served to one person in the group about 30 minutes after the order. The other two food orders were served about 90 minutes after the food had been ordered. Of course, the first person had already finished their meal. The only reason given was that they did not know what happened. I did not see the owner whom I know as Tony, so I decided to leave a note on the back of our bill with my name and cell number. For me both food and service are extremly important. In the past everything has been excellent and have recommended several individuals to this establishment.

Update Sept 8, 2019: Have been back the last two Sundays and service has returned to normal and acceptable for the number of customers. Regardless of number of customers or untrained staff, service should always be good in any restaurant. Therefore, changed my rating from one star to four stars.
