Mazzio’s Pizza & Wings — Restaurant in Palestine

This was a bad experience for me and my family. The 3 of us ordered buffets and I asked the cashier how much the buffet was and she told me she didn't know. She didn't care to ask anyone either. We finally found that out once we checked out and it printed on the receipt. There was rotten food on the salad bar and several containers that were almost completely empty. It was dirty and had not been cleaned up or wiped down in quite some time and they were not busy. They had entirely too many employees that were just standing around NOT working. The pizza was cold and the bar where it was all at didn't seem to be warm either. The desert pizza that was there was almost gone and was so hard, it almost appeared to be from the day befores buffet. Bad experience and I seriously doubt we will be going back. It was our first time ever ordering food from there. I saw it closes at 9 pm, husband got there about 8:05 doors were already locked. So he went through the drive thru the girl was taking his order and told him to wait. A so called manager came out saying this is what we have take or leave!! So my husband just took the food I had requested for him to order. The so called manager told my husband what’s online on the menu y’all don’t have any of it!!! My experience for a first timer? My husband grew up on Grapeland, had never been in the restaurant. We have lived here 7 years and decided tonight we would try it out. I discovered Mazzio's forty years ago in college and it was my go to place on Sunday nights when the dorm cafeterias weren't open. It USED to be great pizza--Chicago style with the cheese forming a crust over the meat and tomato sauce. Not anymore.

They have gone to a thin crust buffet style format similar to Mr. Gatti's, and the quality has suffered. Part of the problem with the Palestine, TX location is the water tasted absolutely HORRIBLE. There was a strong taste of chlorine to it, and this affected the ice, the drinks, and maybe anything that used water. We went to a nearby town and a lady we talked to said the water was so bad in that area that she had to buy bottled water. I wish Mazzio's had lived up to my memories,...
