Giving this a two stars is generous after our experience. We were quoted a "no more" than 45 minute wait which was manageable with a 18 month old. After waiting for an hour I went to the hostess stand to make sure I wasn't supposed to receive a confirmation text and they said no they would just call us and that we would be the next to be seated. They then sat a party of at least 15 people (I get it parties require accomodations and I figured they needed that space for a party that big) but then they sat 4 more tables ahead of us. All parties under 5. Because our grandbaby was getting heavily impatient I went to the stand again and noticed they had skipped our name and marked out about 8 parties that came in after us. This was maddening because we were sitting in front of them the last 30 minutes and they acknowledged my grandbaby several times because he was getting very restless. I asked them why we were unable to sit at a 4 top with a highchair at the end of the table and they stated they didn't like to do that because it blocks the pathways. I then acknowledged the fact that the table to our left had a high chair at the end of it. I was irritated at this point but remained as sympathetic to their seating situation as possible. They promptly sat us right afterwards, highchair on end of course. The Cajun oysters were great! As well as the cheese curds. However it went down from there. My son's "grilled" shrimp was boiled with not a single sign of a grill mark. My daughter in laws chicken sandwich was so burnt she couldn't eat but half of it, my grandbabies noodles were cold, my stuffed grouper was so over cooked I couldn't cut into the edges of the fish even with a knife and my husband's snapper was so burnt that he sent it back. Now we eat out ALL the time (I wish we didn't) because we are busy people. My husband has never sent back food in the 13 years we have been together but it was unable to be consumed. He tried to cut through the fish and the bottom layer was so hard a knife wouldn't go through it. It appeared as of the kitchen knew this food was not to par and tried hiding it to the best of their ability. His second fish that came out was amazing he said. I was so hungry I just ate the burnt over cooked grouper 😅. All in all we were there for 3 hours!!!! That's quite insane. Lots of waiting and badly prepared food. We will never go back. We come to Panama at least once a year for the last decade and this was the first time eating at the Captains Table,...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining here, and it was a truly wonderful experience deserving 5 stars. Arriving just after 5 pm on a Wednesday, I was immediately charmed by the quaint indoor seating area. Near the hostess station, a fish-related joke and a fun fact about flounders provided a delightful, welcoming touch. I opted for outdoor seating, which came with the thoughtful touch of complimentary water with lemon – a welcome gesture on a warm and sunny evening.
My server, Katie, was exceptional. Her attentiveness and friendly demeanor made the entire meal enjoyable. I started with the She Crab Soup, a creamy delight. While there were a few small pieces of crab shell, the overall taste was outstanding, and the accompanying hushpuppy was simply divine.
For my main course, I chose the half and half platter, opting for shrimp and scallops. I was slightly disappointed that I couldn’t mix and match cooking styles (blackened shrimp and grilled scallops), as they had to be prepared the same way. However, the available options (fried, grilled, blackened, or broiled) were plentiful. The platter also came with two sides and more of those fantastic hushpuppies. I selected the cheese grits and the vegetable medley (broccoli and cauliflower with parmesan), the grits were especially delicious. The quality of the silverware doesn't really match the price point and quality of the food, but this is a miniscule gripe.
Initially, I noted the small size of the scallops, and Katie explained they were bay scallops, naturally smaller. However, showing exceptional customer service, she later brought out an additional portion, acknowledging that the initial serving was indeed a bit light. This thoughtful gesture truly elevated the dining experience.
To conclude the meal, Katie recommended the bread pudding, and I’m so glad she did. It was the absolute highlight of the evening. The bread pudding was perfectly textured, bursting with flavor, and complemented beautifully by a generous and perfectly round scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. It was a perfect ending to a wonderful meal.
Overall, Captain's Table offers a fantastic atmosphere, excellent food, and outstanding service. Katie's attentiveness and the restaurant's commitment to customer satisfaction made this a memorable dining experience. I would recommend Captain's Table to any of my friends looking for a delicious seafood meal in the...
Read moreAbsolutely not. My family visited on 05.26 and we were very unimpressed. We were seated at our table at 8pm. Our waitress appeared 10 minutes later and said she'd be with us shortly. After another 5 minutes or so she comes over and takes our drink and appetizer order. We ordered the fried Calamari and it arrives about 20-25 minutes later COLD and the batter was falling off like it was old or cooked with old grease. The waitress returns about 10 minutes later to take our order BUT proceeds to tell us there are no more fries or fried Okra which thru a wrench in our meal planning because who wants cheese grits as a side with their fried seafood basket?! We finally got our orders in and we waited....and waited......AND waited some more until I finally got up to look for a manger. When she comes over I explained that we'd been at their establishment for an hour and a half with nothing more than an inedible appetizer and the only thing she says to me is "all I can tell you is my kitchen is slammed and we've done more business today than any other day" I really wanted to leave but seeing that they held us there until 9:30 with no food there was nowhere else to fo because everything closes at 10 and I do mean everything. When I got my grouper sandwich the fish was fried way too hard, my bread was hard and the sandwich was inedible as well. We spent $100 to leave hungry. I'll never go back. Advice to the restaurant would be to ramp up your employees during busy season since you know you're in a popular beach town so everyone can experience the same type of service. Overall, I wouldn't recommend coming during any holiday or summer months. Food isn't worth the wait at all. I only took a pic of the Calamari because by the time the meals came I was VERY upset as you...
