We will never eat at this restaurant again! My wife, two adult daughters, and I enjoy Early Bird's food and have been to the restaurant at least 20 times. One of my daughters has an anaphylactic wheat allergy, and the Early Bird has a delicious gluten free waffle that she enjoys. While the food is actually very good, our dining experiences have always been hit or miss. Sometimes we wonder if the staff was just having a bad day and letting external events impact their service at the restaurant. Nonetheless, we kept visiting the restaurant, because the food was very good. This morning, my two daughters visited the restaurant to have a sister's breakfast as they have many times in the past. My daughter with the wheat allergy ordered the Early Bird meal and asked the waitress if she could substitute the gluten free waffle for the toast as she has done many times before. For the first time in our experiences with Early Bird, the food arrived to the table with toast on top of the eggs and the gluten free waffle on a side plate. My daughter again explained her anaphylactic reaction to the waitress and the need to remake the plate to ensure no cross contamination. The waitress and staff got very defensive over their mistake. They finally agreed to return the plate to the kitchen only to bring it back out to my daughter a minute later. We don't know for sure, but we suspect that the kitchen staff simply removed the toast from on top of the eggs and had the plate returned to my daughter without remaking it and ensuring mitigation of cross contamination. Everything on the plate appeared as it did before with the exception that the toast was now gone and the eggs were cold. My daughter is in the food service industry and did not wish to make an additional fusses about her concerns and simply ate the eggs. Within a minute of eating the eggs, her throat got scratchy, it began to close, and her lungs began constrict and fill with fluid. Luckily, she was able to avoid a trip to the ER with a quick dose of Benadryl and a rescue inhaler followed by additional Benadryl doses throughout the morning. She was in bed for most of the day recovering from the anaphylactic reaction. We've been willing to overlook poor service at the Early Bird Papillion in the past, but this time their attitude put my daughter's health at risk. I just hope that a small child or a person with a more severe allergy does not experience a significant health issue due to the Early Bird's mistakes, unwillingness to take responsibility for their mistakes, and desire to cut corners in regards to food allergies. Omaha is a city filled with fantastic restaurants, most of which truly understand issues of food allergies and bend over backwards to welcome patrons with allergies while ensuring their safety. I am done overlooking the shortcomings of the Early Bird's staff and hope they do not cause a significant health issue for other patrons with...
Read moreThe manager may have taken the brunt of my anger and it was no fault of hers. So for that I was wrong. I received a phone call from my 16 year old daughter saying she has hit a pole in the parking lot. She explains to me that the waitress came out yelled at her and made her call 911. My daughter tried explaining to the waitress that this was not an emergency no need to call 911. The waitress insisted. My daughter respected her elder and did what she asked. As a parent I scramble from work and drive straight there. Upon arrival I find my daughter and her 4 friends waiting by the Jeep. Apparently I just missed the police (who didn’t even make a report because there is 0 PROPERTY DAMAGE! The police also took the time to lecture my daughter about the importance of not calling 911 for a NON EMERGENCY. Then a property manager comes to survey the damage. He laughs, literary laughs. He is more concerned about the vehicle than anything else. After all the concrete pylon is installed for this exact reason. Obviously the plastic fenders of a Jeep are no match for a concrete pylon. Judging by the pics I can only imagine the police are called several times a week based on the damage on every single pole. Or did the waitress just insist that the easily intimidated minor girls call them?
So may we tally total time wasted by the Police first, then me, then the other parents who had to wait for their daughters, the property manager. The manager of the restaurant (who again, undeservingly caught the brunt of my anger) The total time is ridiculous. All this for a waitress who obviously can’t differentiate what is and is not an emergency situation or property damage. This review is NOT a reflection on the food or the manager. Just the server who has 0...
Read moreWe came in and the gentleman who greeted us had an amazing energy and customer service, I really thought we would have a great experience. The restaurant was mostly empty only 4 tables with people. We were sat in Brook's section. When she came over to the table we were trying to secure our infant car seat in the high chair because they did not have slings. Our 3 month old can't sit up in a high chair yet. The high car was un even and and wasn't sturdy with his car seat. Brook seemed upset or annoyed as we were figuring this all out. She flatly told us people usually set the baby on the table. His car seat took over half the table. We ordered coffee and ice tea with pink sugar aka sweet n low. We confirmed with Brooke they had pink sugar. She came back to inform us they in fact did not have sweet in low. Ordering food Brook had the personality of a wet noodle, like she would rather do anything other than take our order. I ordered a BLT but asked for white bread instead of sourdough. Brook informs me "sourdough is the only option". (I'm severely deprived of sleep with the 3 month old and honestly thought they didn't have white bread otherwise I would have pushed for white bread) I also ordered a side of asparagus. He got eggs, hashbrowns, sausage and biscuits and gravy with a toast. White toast. The food comes out. The hash browns were cute. Nothing was note worthy delicious. And the asparagus, just stay home and spray cooking spray in your mouth. Yuck can only taste Pam. We waited serval minutes to see our waitress, or anybody, to get our empty cups refilled. And what restaurant can't change out the type of bread on a sandwich? We do not recommend and...
