I’m Nigerian and would usually try to proudly support my own people but we also have to hold our folks accountable. There is no way on this earth that that place would pass a Health inspection from the City/County/State. First of all, the place is extremely dirty, smells like raw fish, and then when you sit down, you are met with extremely dirty menus that still have like old food and debris nastily placed throughout. I couldn’t even touch the menu fully I had to use the tip of my nails to turn the pages of the menu. The server was visibly sweating bullets, which is so disgusting to me that my server is sweating that much it - it was not even that hot in there. Now the mobile tray that was used to bring out the food was so filthy, like it had not been cleaned in two months. My husband ordered ofada stew and Rice. I initially ordered nkwobi and, several moments later, was told that there is none available and that I should order something else. The waiter never came back to take my replacement order so I left it because honestly, I was so disgusted with how dirty the place that I was OK passing on food at this point. When he brought my husband’s food on the dirty tray, the food was brought out cold. My husband literally just placed his fork and tasted it when he immediately had a visceral reaction to how cold the food was. He then called the waiter’s attention to let him know and the waiter essentially said because my husband had eaten out of the food that he had no options available. Imagine!!! So I looked at the waiter, as that “troublesome” wife, and asked him what he would have my husband do - and he said “oh you know I just can’t do anything because he’s eaten out of the food” very stupid! So, I said why don’t you go ahead and bring my husband a bowl of hot rice so he can eat with the stew - he agreed. My husband was finally turned off after being as patient as possible. I was ready to leave from the moment I walked, but my husband had patience up until that moment. We waited a few more minutes the man to come back with the rice but he never did, so we took our leave. I’m tired of Nigerians taking nonsense from Nigerian restaurants in the name of support. We need to start holding our people to high standards - to the same standards we would hold European or American restaurants. We cannot keep collecting rubbish in the name of “well it’s OK that’s how Nigeria is”. We’re tired. It’s time for us to do better because we can do better. I can’t take any more nonsense and that’s exactly why I’m taking my time to write this review, because it’s time that we Nigerians hold each other accountable for crappy service and have our service providers do better. Read more...two visits and horrible service was all I could remember of my visit to this restaurant. Precisely on July 29, 2015, I waited for about 45 minutes despite calling ahead to place my order. The young waiter initially claimed he mistook my call for another lady who called in about the same time I did and ordered the same thing. Oh well, I thought to myself, it was not the end of the world. I waited for the meal since I was already there and had some time to kill. The food was not worth the wait for me, the taste was bland and there was no spicy kick to the soup. Plus, I got 4 small cubes of meats (for an assorted soup order) but I thought perhaps I was just been over-expectant. The next day I took a friend there as I wanted to be certain my first experience was a one-off.
Unfortunately, I had beaten more than I could chew when after waiting for exactly 30 minutes after placing my order the mid-aged waiter came to inform me that they had ran out of goat meat for my order but that they had a beef with bones if I was interested. I was shocked. I told him to bring me assorted meat instead and warned not to give me 4 pieces of meat as they did yesterday. My friend insisted we should wait and that he truly wanted to eat jollof rice with plantains. Okay, we are already here I thought, there's no need leaving now. We sat there for another 30 minutes and the food came. My "assorted meat" came with some fish and two bones plus 2 tripes. The waiter apologized and stated their cook didn't realize they had no more meat. My friend's jollof rice seemed microwaved from previous night. It tasted so-so with one tilapia fish in it.
Even though the mid-aged waiter kept apologizing, I could only wonder why put customers through such embarrassment all in the bid to identify as a Nigerian restaurant? I swore to him I would never visit the place again as you only get one chance to sell yourself - they failed twice and it seemed deliberate. His excuse was short and simple: "we are short-staffed, there is no one to go buy groceries as the cook cannot do it all by...
Read moreIf I could rate this a ZERO I would. This place was DIRTY and I am NOT bougee! The door to the bathroom fell off the hinges, we weren’t served any silverware until requested and the food (for the most part) was awful. My boyfriend was excited to take me somewhere to enjoy food from his country and we went completely considering the rating which to my surprise is high. The service was excessively slow and we were only 1 of 2 parties. My food, unfortunately was heated in the microwave. My chicken was not edible at all, it looked and smelled like it had been reheated several times it was identifiably old, cold and not fresh in the least. My boyfriend tried because I asked him to, he didn’t want to based solely on its appearance but did and he said it was awful, and he can eat some u sightly things. The pounded yam was very good with the vegetable soup and goat meat. That was his meal and I ate it because my meal was not something I would consider even near edible. When we were finished eating, we wanted to pay with a CC and the owner said he would not accept a card but, offered to take us to the store to buy $90 of food……. It’s a good thing we had cash. Edit: I wasn’t aware that this could be edited. I need to add that the evening after we are here we were both incredibly nauseous with GI issues that lasted several days. I do not recommend chancing this place, as soon as you walk in, you will remember this review. I just hope you find it before you waste your...
