Went twice during a recent stay at Crockfords/Resort World - lunch on the first day was solid and the service was perfect as the server was charismatic, helpful, and obviously loved his job. Food was good.
Not the same the next day for breakfast on my birthday. Resorts World already has very limited breakfast options. After a twenty minute wait for a table, we were sat and ignored for another ten minutes. This server was night/day from our previous lunch - we were greeted with "do you know what you want to order" - and it was downhill from there. We ordered drinks and two breakfasts - my wife ordered the 3-eggs-any-way with OJ while I ordered the BLTA Benedict with a Bloody Mary.
A few minutes later a gentlemen was seated next to us. His order was promptly taken by the same server. Our drinks came after a short wait - Bloody Mary was ok.
Fifteen minutes later, the gentlemen received his BLTA benedict. It looked good. Ten minutes later he requested his check, and five minutes later he was out of there.
And we were still waiting...... Our server eventually showed and admitted that something was wrong in the kitchen. The problem he stated- they ran out of poached eggs for my benedict. I pointed out the guy who ordered after me (and had already left) received the exact same order - the server says he was very upset with the kitchen, but the only way to make my order was to put scrambled eggs on the benedict. Confused as to why.... I asked for the manager, who very politely apologized and said they just ran out of poached eggs but can put scrambled on the benedict (think through this one.....). He informed me that due to our very long wait and inconvenience that breakfast would be free for the two of us.
So another 5+ minutes later breakfast showed up. My yolkless scrambled eggs on top of a benedict. But my wife's 3-eggs-any-way over medium showed up with - yep - scrambled eggs. The server looked shocked, and we informed him that he had read our order back to us correctly and we would like eggs over medium. I call the manager again, who apologized again, and now says "the chef made too many scrambled eggs" - strange. At this point we were furious but starving, so we picked at our free breakfast. Near the end of the meal the 3-eggs-over-medium arrived- guess they found some. My wife offered one of her eggs over my last piece of benedict so it actually tasted close to a poached egg.
We assume our waiter merely forgot to put in our order, and in a rush to give us something to eat, had the kitchen put scrambled on the dishes to save time. But we don't know, since we were obviously being lied to.
The manager was kind and again apologized, even offering me another drink for free, which I declined - I'd say he had egg on his face but don't get me started on eggs..... We left without a check or tip, and on our way out, another couple was receiving a perfect looking BLTA benedict.... with poached eggs.
Two stars instead of one only because lunch (and especially our waiter) on day one was so much fun, I wish I remembered his name. But if you are thinking breakfast, save $150 and go to Denny's across the street. I bet they have eggs, are more honest in their approach, and won't ruin 90 minutes of...
Read moreI’ve been to Wally’s in Beverly Hills and they always have a good selection of by the glass wines so I decided to check out the Vegas location. I regret it completely, because this place is an absolute joke as a wine bar. The employees are completely clueless about wine.
We arrived in the afternoon just to get a couple of glasses of wine. It was pretty dead so we were seated promptly. I asked the waiter a question about one of the by the glass wines on the list and he didn’t know the answer, but at least this guy admitted he did not know which grape varietal the wine was made of. So he says “Let me go get the sommelier.” I thought great, it’s always nice to talk to someone knowledgeable about wine. But then the “sommelier” came out and I was sorely disappointed.
I presented the same question to the “sommelier”, who confidently told me this Saint-Joseph was a blend and not 100% Syrah (which was 100% wrong, I looked it up myself later). I told him I wanted a French Syrah and he couldn’t point one out on the list (there were actually several, again I looked this up later myself). He says “Let me go check which Syrah we have” and left to the back. I assume he was just looking up the wines on the list on the internet, which I can do myself.
So he comes back and tells me the same wine he told me was a blend “is the closest thing we have to a French Syrah”. Well of course it is, it’s 100% Syrah! Then they finally bring out my glass of wine. It tastes fine but it’s not really what I was expecting. I already had this much trouble getting my wine so I don’t mention it.
We finish our wine, they bring out the check, and the wine on the receipt isn’t even the wine I was talking about with the “sommelier”! It’s a Côtes du Rhône (which is a blend and not 100% Syrah). And I realized at that point the wine I was drinking tasted like a Côtes du Rhône, so it must’ve been the wine they poured me. Again I was already tired of dealing with these guys so I just left a crap tip and went on my way.
So in summary, the “sommelier” this Wally’s employs is as fake as everything else in Vegas. Skip this place if you’re looking for a...
Read moreTalk about a place that is missing the mark. First, we made a reservation online where it indicated a $250 table minimum. When we arrived we were told they don’t take reservations and that making one was unnecessary. At that point the host was seating us out at the “outside seating” I inquired as he was seating us if we were here mainly for the wine experience, should we sit inside (where I could see wine displayed). His response was “nah you’re good here”. From there it took another 20 minutes before a server greeted us. He simply was there to take the order & did not discuss or ask if we had any questions regarding the very extensive wine list. We picked our wine he wrote the number down and moved on. When I inquired about tastings or flights he simply said “we don’t offer that.” When the Sommelier arrived at the table with our selected wine, he actually was knowledgeable in our choice and suggested some items on the menu that would accompany well. When we had already paid the bill and eaten a very mediocre lunch, we went inside to use the restroom and then walked the wines ourselves until we met the Sommelier (Daniel) again. At this point Daniel was extremely welcoming and helped us make some additional purchases. It just seems to me, that if the host and or waiter noted our wine selection (which was well over a 150 bottle) they’d have taken the time & opportunity to share the store etc. Perhaps offered the opportunity to buy another bottle which we would gladly have done. If you’re wanting a nice experience with knowledgeable wine service etc, you’re better off to check out The Local at the District, Khoury’s Fine Wine & Spirits and / or Valley Cheese and Wine. They have just as much knowledge. Yes Wally’s had an amazing collection and huge variety, but their service simply...
