Let me preface this by stating that I had not been here since late 2020. I came with a friend who lived in Elizabeth and we were still wearing masks. It could have been early 2021, but not later than that as my friend died from Covid-19 later that year.
I don't remember being "wow'd" by the food or atmosphere back then and just assumed the quality was a reflection of the times with second string cooks, supply chain issues forcing different suppliers to bring in food, etc.
Boy, was I wrong. Apparently, being less than mediocre is par-for-course for Las Delicias. Let me explain:
I arrived at about 12:30PM on a Saturday and told the host that I was expecting a friend to join me. He sat me at a table right next to the kitchen, which I guess was okay. Not ideal, of course, but okay. He left me with two menus and silverware sets.
The waitress came over and I ordered a Pepsi and waited. Before my friend joined me, the waitress had returned numerous times to see if I was ready to order. No, I wasn't. In that time, though, I'd finished my Pepsi and she never once offered to refill it.
My friend arrived and the waitress was back to see if we were ready to order. No, we weren't. I'd placed the empty Pepsi cup next to the edge of the table so she couldn't miss it, but she apparently did.
A few moments later I caught our waitress's eye in an attempt to have her come over to the table, but she didn't get the hint. I knew she'd be by eventually, though, based on previous behavior. When she finally did glance my way I tapped my glass to hint that I needed a refill. She gave me a look I can only describe as irritated and refilled my cup.
My friend ordered the beef enchilada deluxe plate and I ordered the plain beef enchilada plate. The waitress did try to clarify if I wanted the deluxe as well and I said, no, just the regular.
A few minutes later the guy came out with two plates and called mine cheese enchiladas. I said it's supposed to be beef and he advised that I cut it up and check. Turns out, if you cut their enchiladas you might be able to find some scraps of meat in there ... somewhere. My friend also couldn't find any beef in her enchiladas.
Plus, the food looked awful.
A minute later, neither of us had taken a bite and the waitress came over to ask if everything was okay. I said, "No." She asked, "So, everything's fine?"
Sigh. "No."
She asked, "What's wrong?" At this point I let it all out. "The salsa tastes like it came from a jar, the food looks subpar and there's not enough beef in these enchiladas to even consider calling them "beef enchiladas."
She did ask if I wanted her to replace the enchiladas with new ones and I said, "Actually, no. I don't want to eat any of this. I'll pay for the sodas and leave."
She looked shocked and I repeated myself. My friend breathed a sigh of relief. "We're not eating here?" she asked.
"I'm not," I responded. The waitress said she'd cover the Pepsis and we left. Went down the street a different Mexican place that wasn't so depressing, had a great lunch.
No need to ever return to Las...
Read moreTrue story on the afternoon of 7/18/2021, My wife and I went to Las Delicias, Uptown in Denver for brunch. Good food, good drinks, good service, good times. On our way back to the Springs we decided go to Las Delicias, Parker (since we'd never been there before). Big Mistake!
We were seated by a waiter and he brought chips and salsa (which we declined because we want an entre and desert). A few minutes later a waitress brought water to the table, and asked if we were ready to order. My wife orders Horchata and Coctel De Camaron. The waitress tells my wife (in English) they don't have it even though Coctel de Camaron is STILL on the menu in the restaurant and online. This was the only reason why we wanted to go there.
The waitress went on to explain all the other shrimp orders that could be ordered. My wife explained we just came from the Uptown restaurant but we didn't order it there because we intended to try the Parker restaurant as well as order desert. That's when things got worse...
The waitress was leaning/sitting on the table next to where we were seated and she told my wife (in English) we should probably go somewhere else and get it if she didn't like what what the waitress was telling my wife. OK, now it's gloves off, jersey over the head.
My wife then asked the waitress in fluent Spanish (just in case there wasn't a language/interpretation issue) are you telling us to leave? And the waitress (in Spanish) said yes, if you don't like it?
I asked my wife to leave the restaurant with me. We left the table and as we were leaving my wife insisted on speaking with the management. My wife explained to the manager how we had just come for the Uptown location and the manager gave my wife the impression we shouldn't go to the competition. COMPETITON? This was a full Spanish conversation explaining the incident and the manager defended his waitress explaining she was their best waitress. My wife told the manager in Spanish "well, good luck with that one". Here's the kicker, the waitress had the unmitigated gall to even ask my wife if she still wanted the Horchata to go? Seriously...
We left the dark, greasy, dirty, out dated, restaurant peacefully with no intension of ever returning.
On the happy side, we will return to the Uptown restaurant with pleasure but NEVER ever the Parker location.
My impression was It seemed like these Las Delicias restaurants are family owned and operated businesses that may have rivalry and jealousy when it comes to which restaurant is better than the other. Bottom line is the waitress and manager were very rude and less than...
Read moreOkay, let me start by saying I’ve been going to Las Delicias for over 30 years, starting at the one on 9th Avenue. We now go to the one on Colorado Blvd but more frequently this one in Parker because of convenience. We always like the food and the one time it wasn’t the best, Ivan (I think he’s the manager) made it right. Ivan is awesome. All the waitresses/ waiters and other staff are awesome. My issue is with another manager, I believe, but I can’t remember his name. He is at the register a lot with a beard and never friendly. Typically I let it slide, but tonight this guy was straight up rude. No words spoken, no eye contact and the only reason he said a forced, “thank you” was because my husband said it first and still no eye contact, smile, nada. It’s almost like he feels that he is doing us a favor by taking our $$. How about we do you an even bigger favor and take our years of business elsewhere. I bit my tongue barely because I had my kids there and it was busy, but next time there will be no holding my tongue and I’ll be calling him out. All the years we’ve gone to your restaurant and $$ spent, not cool. The manager at the Glendale restaurant is completely opposite, so friendly and welcoming. This guy needs to take a page out of his book. On another note, thank you to all the NICE and FRIENDLY staff and always being...
