I don't like to give bad reviews but I feel this one is important. There are lots of positives about this cafe and I recommend it for people who don't have allergy concerns. I however, do, and they failed to meet my needs in spite of telling me the food was safe at least a few times.
I have celiac, and I'm also a vegetarian. The vegetarian options were awesome and tasted good. I ordered a gluten free Belgian waffle and reminded our very nice server three times that I have a severe allergy. I asked to confirm the gluten free status of the food and asked them to communicate to the kitchen that I have an allergy. None of this was an issue, I was met with all positives. Clarifications were made and questions answered, I felt good.
Our food was delivered and we confirmed that our dishes were definitely gluten free and we were told yes. We dug in and it was all delicious. I did not detect gluten in my food, which I usually will notice within a few bites. The taste lingers in my mouth.
3 hours later I started to have a full blown attack and I am now completely bed ridden and disabled.
Saying that your food is gluten free and safe for allergy's and celiacs is a really important responsibility to get right. You are ensuring people they can trust you with their lives and, in my case, their ability to function and keep up with daily activities for months. So many things are impacted for so long when people have a celiac reaction. Sometimes it requires hospitalization. All the time it takes weeks for me to recover. This is my first exposure in 2 years because I am so careful and communicative and I have never been so ensured I was safe and so wrong.
I won't be returning and I warn anyone with allergies or celiac to order items here that are always gluten free and ask a lot of questions regarding cross contamination and trace ingredients. Dine at your own risk.
Food: tastes good but caused a devastating reaction when it was promised to be gluten free.
Service: our server was very kind and nice but failed to ensure the allergy was taken care of after much assurance.
Atmosphere: we sat outside. It’s a busy intersection. Lots of horn honking and people blasting through with loud cars or motorcycles. It’s not a place to...
Read moreGreat team here! Very kind and attentive! Breakfast food was a hit! We tried the vegan Belgium waffles - texture was inseparable from an egg based waffles; the taste (ours was plain) gave a hint of the lack of egg. With flavor/toppings, you would not likely taste the difference. Plenty of outdoor seating, and pretty quick seating! I saw some negative reviews citing noise outdoors…I feel like that is an unfair criticism. It’s outdoor seating allow a busy road in Pasadena, there is going to naturally be some noise from cars passing by…not on the restaurant. You assume that when you sit down! Lol. They have pretty cool black curtains to block the sun from your outdoor table. Our table had pancakes, waffles, veggie mess…all a hit! I got the blackened chicken breast sandwich is was solid; but not amazing, although it should be noted I had it without the mayo (allergy) and cheese (trying to eat a little healthier…); so with those, it might be even better! OJ was fresh and tasty. The menu is pretty expansive. And they have a full vegan breakfast and lunch menu pages. Pretty cool! Dog friendly, kid friendly. One of the bus team members was above and beyond kind. He helped us with a high chair, and some other items. He was great we felt compelled to tip him on top of the general tip. Joey our server was awesome and very sweet. There is street parking and a small lot. We found a spot north of the restaurant into the neighborhood about 1.5 blocks up. Beware the curbs are very high; you will not be able to open your car doors on the passenger side. You could prob get away with parking in the giant rite aid lot across the way… Millie’s is a cool spot, hope to be back soon! Bfast and lunch are both served all...
Read morePlease read . If there are minus stars I'd give -100 or more, 1st time took my girl here today. I saw the eggs Benedict on the web and look delicious, so I wanted to try'em. While we were waiting at the front entrance for someone to give us a table , an old guy approached to me and told me what's up , like if I was a homeless bothering or asking for a free meal, saying what do we need, c'mon what do I look like doing at at restaurant, then he asked me if we already joined the waiting list, like if we knew there's was a digital list to write our names, besides it is not at the very front, is kinda hidden on the left of the entrance,. I wrote down my name waited couple minutes then same guy called my name to give us a table outside, he just pointed where to sit down, not a specific table and we took the first table we saw, then whiting 5 minutes we got water, and a waiter asked if we were ready to order, then the same old guy asked to one waiter why we sat down in that table and he replied in Spanish, There is where they sat down, I mean we were not told which table to take in the 1st place, then the old man came to our table grabbed the bottle with water and cups and passes right in front of me without saying excuse me or anything and put the water on the very tiny table on the side , he took a tiny table we were using as well, and came back again to take one more chair without at least saying Can i use this chair? Which I had with our belongings because the tables are like miniature tables, so so rude attitude , we felt discriminate from this guys racist manners, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone , there are more places where workers are way too kind and...
