JUST GO! We visited Mommas BBQ (aka Mollies Kitchen) on 2/24/24 after wanting some bbq from a "hole in the wall". Listennnnnnn... it looks like a shack, but it didn't disappoint... I love to eat from a shack. "Momma" was sitting outside as customer arrived. There was a table of homemade cakes, sweet potato pies, and pecan pies (sold out). There was a homemade wooden "cash register" that I'm assuming "Momma" used when she was younger. Her son had a notebook writing customers names and taking orders. He was extremely efficient as he was calling orders in to the "kitchen", one by one. When one order came out, he'd call the next one in. We were watching smoked meat come off of the grill and go into the "kitchen", and watching as they kept track of how much meat they had before they would accept another order... to make sure they had what the customer wanted. I added to my order after it had already been paid for, and he didn't miss a beat adding my additional items. We ordered a chicken plate, a rib plate, a turkey leg, and 2 mini sweet potato pies. Impression....
Ribs without sauce- 9/10- flavor was good, nice char, no sauce was even needed, and you can taste the smoke.
Chicken with sauce- 9/10. Great portion. Freshly smoked. Packed with flavor. Smoke flavor into the bone.
Turkey leg- 10/10. I can't say enough about it. Just get you one. Moist. Smoky. HUGE. Delicious skin.
Sweet potato pies- 8/10. Delicious taste but a very thick crust. Tastes like my grandmothers and I'd love to be able to order a whole one and have more pie than crust.
Potato salad- 7/10. Definitely homemade with love
Baked beans- 3/10. Straight from the can. If they'd add their bbq sauce and put them on the smoker, that would be a game changer.
Overall 8/10. It's a shame we had to drive all the way from Mobile, AL just to find good bbq, but we'll definitely be back.Guaranteed!
This place is only open on Saturdays though, and when it's...
Read moreI finally had a chance to stop and eat here again after having to smell it on my way to work for the past several months. I remember having their ribs once before years ago and not being disappointed. All the breakfast places were busy so I ended up here an hour before they actually opened. I was able to order and chat before going home to wait as they are a quick drive for me. Ordered a chicken dinner and added a hot link sausage. As you can see I received a lot of food for what I ordered. Something like 2 links, 4 legs and 4 or 5 thighs? There's no way I was supposed to get all that, I feel bad I should've tipped them more if I was gonna end up with that much food. Didn't realize until I got it back home. The food itself was really good. The chicken was smokey and juicy. The BBQ sauce is sticky sweet with a nice touch of heat. The hot link is actually fairly spicy, not blow your head off but enough that you'll notice. The baked beans were good, but didn't seem like they had any of the BBQ trimmings in them. And it may just be me, but the potato salad was oddly sweet. Almost dessert sweet. I was thinking of buying some cake that they didn't have out when I ordered originally, but the line had got long on me while I was waiting for my food. You can call in, but do so early. I know they often sell out...
Read moreRead moreI have been going here for decades to purchase bar-b-que plates from Mrs. Molly and her family by the church on Saturday's - this is just nice people with a basic set up selling BBQ and I believe some of the profits go to the church. They have small cakes, pies, and sodas for sale most of the time. You can expect ribs, chicken, sausage, and turkeys - baked beans and potato salad can't forget 2 slices of bread. This is a outside set up and they have been working on getting the restaurant portion opened which is at the same location. I usually get my meat(s) without the bbq sauce - I believe they use sweet baby...
