I'm going to be very honest. This is an incredibly mediocre restaurant, with busted furniture and greasy food. The staff were surly, and my guts have been unhappy for two days straight. I will never come back, and I will be sure to pipe up with my opinion whenever this place is mentioned.
We were told 'there's a booth near the back' and dismissed with a wave by a guy at the front who didn't seem he could care less. We went towards the back, saw only one empty table which was a 5-top and half booth/half table. We were a party of three, one of whom needed to do a bit of work on a laptop and I'm glad now we had the extra table space. Also, I'm disabled and really prefer chair seating so we settled in.
The same guy brings our waters and starts whinging on about how we sat at the wrong table, gestures to a tiny booth hidden along the windows (we literally hadn't seen it hiding over there) and that they usually save their larger tables for bigger groups. I politely said 'Oh I'm sorry I can't sit in that kind of booth' and gestured at my cane with an apologetic smile. He ROLLED HIS EYES and walked off with a huff.
The waitress was equally rude with a huffy attitude, snappy responses and literally never smiled even once. We were raised right, always say thank you and treat waitstaff with respect. We were very nice to her, and absolutely didn't deserve that behavior. She also just wasn't very attentive. Coffee went cold and a refill was offered just once. She never checked on our cocktails to ask about ordering any other drinks so my second drink was ordered damn near the end of the meal and I had to chug it down which was disappointing.
She brought our food claiming the plates were REALLY HOT and yet somehow all the food was lukewarm and the cheese on my omelet was already congealed. The mimosas were WARM, we had to add ice from our waters to get them chilled a bit. And they just weren't very good, weak pours and it was mainly orange juice rather than a real mixed beverage. If jam comes with the food, why the little jam packs on the table? The Bloody Mary was almost as expensive as my entire meal and it wasn't even that good. I got the voodoo version and despite all that seasoning, it STILL wasn't very flavorful of a drink. I also doubted the safety of the shrimp served on top, they seemed rubbery and weren't chilled so I didn't even eat them.
I had asked if the cooks could please crisp up my hashbrowns a bit extra, she said she'd try but they were "pretty busy". I looked around at a number of empty tables and it just really wasn't that busy there! I think she just didn't want to deal with it, and of course the hashbrowns came out undercooked and were 75% inedible. The omelet was overfilled with mainly minced ham and honestly not an ideal choice. It was like trying to eat tiny ham pellets and made for a poor dish. More veggies, and better quality meat would have improved things A LOT.
Overall, it was an overpriced and mediocre experience with disappointing aspects and absolutely not worth it. If a crap atmosphere and crap food and crap service all for a hefty price is what you're after though? By all means, this is the place for you. I won't be back though.
Oh - the onion rings were fairly decent. I did try a few from my fellow diner and they weren't super terrible. They were okay. And the water we got at the start was okay. So...
Read moreAndy’s is a local institution. First, a little history. You can jump down to “THE FOOD” below to skip this if you’d like.
So, I don’t know for sure how many years Andy’s had been there, but I know at least back to about 1997 that I have been going off and on to Andy’s (know known as Andy’s Coffee Break).
Why is the restaurant I am reviewing called Andy’s North, but I mention Andy’s Coffee Break here? Well, don’t quote me, but the story that I got included some details which, although originally openly shared to my father while he was eating there one day, I don’t know if the owner would appreciate seeing it all in a review. There was nothing nefarious about it, but it doesn’t add much to the story and could be considering prying.
But suffice it to say that after years of great business at the original restaurant at the south of this Andy’s North, there were disagreements at the top, and a compromise or agreement which lead to the restaurant being re-incarnated across the street. So you have Andy’s Coffee Break (the original) and an Andy’s North.
THE FOOD Now, it seems to me that the great food followed across the street to Andy’s North after the breakup across the street at Andy’s. I can’t speak for Andy’s Coffee Break, because I mostly in the past went to breakfast with my dad, a frequent diner at Andy’s, and he ended up settling at Andy’s North after the split, so I have ever since gone back to what I know, which is excellent food and service at Andy’s North that my dad introduced me too.
The wait staff is efficient, friendly enough, but busy and under the gun because it’s a popular place, so they will get the job done and won’t bother you too much. Having said that, I stopped our waitress to ask some totally unrelated questions about their high tech ordering system, and she was very pleasant and willing to indulge me, rather than rush off, as I know she probably needed to do. A smart waitress—it earned her an extra 5% on the tip 😉
The food is EXCELLENT. The cook really knows how to make eggs and corned beef hash and hash browns, my personal standard for judging excellence. Our orders were done quickly and perfectly. There were four in our party. The others each had The Wrangler I believe, which was a huge plate. My wife couldn’t finish hers and brought it home. The bill (on 5/14/2021 for reference) was a little over $64 with tax but before tip. So figure about $16/plate average with coffee all around as well.
Andy’s North is my “go-to” breakfast spot in Pasco. In fact, I live 7 miles away in Kennewick and if it is a special occasion and want to take someone to a nice breakfast and don’t want to take a chance, Andy’s North is where I go. No surprises, just great food and...
Read moreAs far as the restaurant itself, I would definitely recommend. I’ve only been twice but had really nice experiences. Eggs Benedict is my favorite breakfast item to order at any restaurant. I just went to another restaurant today and their eggs Benedict were so terrible it inspired me to give this place a great review. The eggs Benedict at this restaurant are so very delicious. Definitely recommend the eggs Benedict. I’ve also tried two other items on the menu which my husband had ordered and were also tasty. This Andy’s and the place across the street have really good food and service. The waitresses were very friendly. I have read another review mentioning how they didn’t like their restrooms. I’ve been in the restroom and didn’t think they were bad. It’s as clean as most bathrooms at restaurants are and should be. This place isn’t world famous restaurant with world class chefs so I’m not sure what some people expect. It is a very nice restaurant, with lovely people, good food, and reasonable prices. reading some of the feed back from the owner/s has left me a bit taken back. Most of the reviews which have complaints have been replied to and in a surprising way, seems as if they do not like complaints and maybe even feel personally attacked and will justify/give an explanation to the complaint. Yet, when only given bad stars they ask for a explanation for their bad review so they can attempt to correct it, however, seems more like the main concern for the reply to the bad review is to give an explanation and/ or justification rather than actually correcting the complaint. This is just my personal opinion from reading the reviews. To the owner/s all I have to say... don’t ask questions you don’t want to hear the answers to. I understand feeling the need to defend your place of business and your name but you cannot make everyone happy. Some people will just complain to complain. others might not have had such a great experience due to “off days” or whatever have you. It Could have been the wrong day to come in or they are just in an awful mood to begin with. If you like the feed back to truly make changes to those bad reviews then do so and take the criticism and make the changes. But if you do that then you’ll be making changes forever as you cannot please everyone all the time. I personally would not comment back to the bad reviews, especially, if no solution is to be given and have so many other great reviews. Just let your restaurant speak for itself as it is a very nice restaurant and I recommend anyone to try it. obviously you are doing something right as there are many more positive reviews than...
