El Chevere Restaurant — Restaurant in Passaic

Place is not as good as it used to be. Before I go into the negatives I want to say the Chaufa de mariscos is good. Service has not been good since before the pandemic. Nonetheless I gave them another try yesterday. I tried to get my server’s attention and not only did he notice and signal that he would be there in a bit, but proceeded to attend some other tables and then started lounging around the waiting area. I understand if you are busy serving other tables but for me to see you lounging around chilling at the front with your coworkers like I wasn’t trying to get your attention is unacceptable. After that interaction with my server he did not come back to my table until it was time to ask for the check, and that was only because the man who I’d assume is the owner asked if I needed anything and sent him over. Once I realized my server was not coming back I was able to flag down a busser who placed an additional order, and brought it out to my table. Aside from that the menu items have become more limited since covid. Menu says 1/2 a chicken with a side selection of choice but the you can only choose between fries, rice, and salad whereas before you could pick any of the sides. Avoid this place service is atrocious. The owner should really look into the older lady answering phone calls because she literally doesn't care to take any orders for pickup. She just kept complaining about not hearing me, and then she said she did hear me, but I just said the order incorrectly, and she couldn't keep correcting my order because she ran out of space. When i clarified the order, she got mad again and argued about how many times am i going to change it. I only changed the ceviche mixto to ceviche de pescado. She also kept cutting me off saying is that all?" Is that all? Over and over like I couldn't breathe before getting a word in. She was extremely rude, and I really tried to be patient, but she was just horrible. Then I told her I decided to go to another Peruvian restaurant since she kept laughing saying she couldn't hear me bc she had so many client's calling she could careless about my order and didn't let me order food here bc of her...

All I can say is this place used to be the spot it was great because it had indoor dining which it does not have anymore I do not recommend this place anymore due to the fact that they are not as friendly they do not let you use their bathroom the prices are super high. It used to be great the prices used to be great too now don't go blaming the pandemic because there's still other places that did go up but nowhere near as high as they did. Would love to give this place more stars if they went back to their old ways maybe it's a different owner I don't know. Unfortunately I could only give this place to Stars because the food is good but the prices are not the customer service is not and there is no dining in. Lower your prices allow dining in allow bathroom usage for paying customers and most of all have much better...
