On June 16, 2024, our Boy Scout group, Troop 6 from Phoenix, Arizona, headed up to Payson, Arizona to camp Geronimo for our annual weeklong camp.
Since we caravan with multiple cars, we always meet at the subway in Payson to regroup and grab lunch. On this day we arrived at Subway at 128 AZ-260 Suite 116, Payson, AZ 85541, and tried to order our meals for the 22 scouts and parents and leaders. We were turned away by the subway restaurant as they said they are not serving Boy Scouts this summer. Meanwhile, they were serving other guests that were dressed in non-Boy Scout uniforms.
One of our Scout moms, went inside by herself and ordered three sandwiches. The employee asked her if she was eating all three of these sandwiches by herself. That question asking a customer ordering multiple sandwiches is irrelevant and inappropriate.
During our hour and a half stop over to regroup, we saw countless other Boy Scout troops and parents go into Subway and then come right back out being turned down for service. Meanwhile, other customers were continued to be served.
This is an outrage and modern day discrimination to turn down not only customers but a group of Boy Scouts heading to a camp that wanted to get some food. We don’t know if this was politically driven or personal decision by management at this restaurant, but it is completely unacceptable.
We will be forwarding this complaint to the Grand Canyon Council BSA requesting that they submit it to The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) organization for further review.
We will be asking for all Boy Scouts and there families to protest and boycott Subway restaurants in their...
Read moreWorst run Subway we've ever seen! The place is big and could be really nice. However, there were at least 4 employees behind the counter at the same time and 4 customers waiting for even one employee to take the time say, "Can I help you?" When one finally got done with her little task, one customer got waited on... slowly. Employees were definitely NOT friendly and customer service was awful. We sat down at a booth and the floor under the table and seats was a mess. Obviously sweeping was not their priority. My husband needed to use the restroom and went to the counter to ask for the keypad code. They refused to give it to him, but instead one employee came out from behind the counter (where other customers were waiting to be served), to open the restroom. WHY have a keypad if the customers aren't allowed to use it? What if it was urgent and the staff decided they were too busy to open the restroom for you? We watched as a lady and little girl came out of the women's restroom and held the door open for her husband so he could use the women's restroom instead of having to go get an employee to let him into the men's room. Ridiculous system! We watched as a couple more customers came in, but only employee out front decided her job cleaning the glass partition was way more important than making sure the customers were waited on. It's sad because it's a nice looking store, but so very poorly run. We...
Read moreFor years Boy Scouts heading to Camp Geronimo have stopped for lunch in Payson before getting to Camp Geronimo so you'd think this Subway would be aware since we've been to this specific location in years past. Yesterday, as I was walking in with my scout in uniform, I was told by another customer that they are refusing service to scouts in uniform, and their families so if I wanted lunch, my son should stay outside. I was sure they were mistaken but sent my son outside. I ordered and upon paying, said to the man behind the counter that I'd heard they are refusing to serve boy scouts in uniform and is that so. The man behind the counter (no name tag) said yes, that's true. I asked why, he said that they only have so many supplies and if they serve scouts, they may run out. I asked how they are any different than other customer since they pay the same and he said that's just what his manager told him to say. This is disgraceful. It's blatant discrimination and against youth serving the community. Who's next? Soldiers? Cops? If they arbitrarily refused service to ANY other group of people, it would never be tolerated yet BOY SCOUTS IN UNIFORM is acceptable? YOU...
