Key Takeaway: If anyone in your party has a food allergy, eat elsewhere.
We had a pretty alarming visit to this restaurant. My wife has a sesame seed allergy and was very specific about it when placing her order. We eat sushi often and every other restaurant we've eaten at can easily accommodate the request to not put sesame seeds on the food. Our waitress noted it and I watched her underline it as she wrote. When the food came (delivered by someone other than our waitress), the rice that was part of the sashimi bento box she ordered was COVERED in sesame seeds. We waited quite a while for our waitress to check in after the food was delivered but after 10 minutes, my wife carefully checked the rest of the food (easy with a bento box) for sesame seeds as she ate only the big chunks of sashimi and gyoza - leaving the rest of the bento box untouched.
After my entire party finished eating, 35 minutes after placing our order, our waitress finally came back to see how the food was. Never mind that everyone's drinks were empty shortly after the food came and we had long given up on refills. I showed the waitress my wife's plate with the sesame covered rice, she was shocked and said that she had specifically noted the allergy and apologized. No other explanation was given, and she asked if we wanted any desert or just the check. When the check came, it was clear that the allergy was noted (see the photo) but the kitchen did not omit the sesame seeds. Nor did she bring our food out to us, nor did she come to check on us at any other time during our meal in which we could have easily had the situation resolved.
They also didn't change the spice level I requested (also in the photo) as my food was as mild as I've ever had but that's very minor in the grand scheme of things. If it really bothered me, I would have found someone that works there (because our waitress was nowhere to be found for the entire meal) and got some chili oil for my dish.
The less than half full restaurant on a Saturday night should have been all the warning I needed to take my family elsewhere, but we were hungry and this restaurant was in a convenient location from our hotel. I rarely ever write negative reviews like this but in this case, the total lack of attention to detail for a pretty simple food allergy is something others should...
Read moreAgainst my better judgement I was swayed to go to this place because of the FiveStars point rewards app & their offer of $10 off any purchase that I was denied the use of. Today was a celebration for my brother so I thought I'd be a good older sibling & take him to dinner. Unfortunately for them, it's an experience which has made us decide not to return.
Upon greeting the host I asked if I should type my number into their FiveStars computer now or later. He said just do it later, the waiter will ask. We were seated at a booth towards the front. The table top was sticky & the specials placard was splattered with goo. After getting water to drink I cleaned the table for us. I was also given chopsticks with soy sauce on it (see photo). Our waitress was very personable. We ordered 1 appetizer sampler, 1 tuna roll & 1 jumbo spider roll. The appetizer sampler included edamame, pork gyoza, fried scallops & 2 sauces. I thought the scallops tasted like they had been frozen, but the edamame & gyoza were fine. Thinking I was going to be able to use the reward, I wasn't too worried. I really like tuna sushi, so I was a disappointed when my tuna roll came out discolored, but it tasted fine overall. My brother really seemed to like the jumbo spider roll, because he ate it really quickly.
Then it came time to pay & I had to use the bathroom, so I gave my brother my card to pay with. Unfortunately when I returned I had forgot to mention the rewards program & my card had already been swiped. So I brought it up to the waitress who said she had to ask the manager. He told me it was too late to use the reward, but I can use it next time. Well, I said, the app says it expires tomorrow & I planned to use it today. Then he asked me to write my name & phone number on the back of a random receipt which he tacked on a wall saying he will remember me & I can use it next time. No, no thanks. I can see why my friends told me not to eat here. Please see...
Read moreThis restaurant is popular with one of my meet-up groups and tonight was the second time I had been here. The service was good and everyone seemed to have enjoyed their food. As usual, I refrained from eating because of multiple food sensitivities. The dishes were beautifully presented and really tempting, though.
I'm sensitive to noise levels though and didn't have a problem. There was background music, though, which did not interfere with the flow of conversation around the table. This is increasingly rare and I really did appreciate this aspect of my visit.
The temperature was mostly comfortable to me, although I think those who tend to run a little cold will want to bring a sweater.
The restrooms were clean and nicely appointed. The handicapped stall was occupied so I don't know if there was a changing table to accommodate the parents of small children.
This facility can accommodate group sizes ranging from couples to larger groups. Our group had only about 8 people this evening.
Upon leaving, I noticed that there was a patio, which would have been a nice option this evening.
Usually I pay much closer attention to wheelchair accessibity, but I wasn't as attuned this evening. I believe there were ramps inside the restaurant and some accommodating spaces.
There is adequate parking, with plenty of...
