It took us an hour to receive our food. I came on my lunch break so even though I figured it would be safe to eat, I had to take it to-go because it took longer than my lunch break to receive it (I am staying 5 minutes away). As a heads up they make the oxtail FRESH so order in advance if you aren't there to hang out for at least an hour and a half. I think there was only 1 girl in the restaurant eating that whole time we were there, so I can only imagine how long it takes when there's more people eating in. I should have known by all the take-out orders and lack of people there, that people already figured out it doesn't make sense to eat-in. I took a picture of the sign out front, because it was funny that their sign did not align with my experience.
Flavors were great. My only other experience with Caribbean food is with Spice It Up, a nearby restaurant. I have to say that Irie Mon has better mac and cheese, very delicious.
Beans and peas are just rice and red beans as far as I can tell, don't let them confuse you. They were pretty good!
Beef patties were probably my favorite I've ever had, I've loved them since childhood. The price tag on these does not make any sense. They know they can sell it at that price because they're so good..
Oxtail is what I came for primarily. It was very good but still does not top Spice It Up. I would recommend offering more sauce on the side because there was not enough. The amount of bones I received gave the illusion of there being a lot of meat, but there was not a lot. I usually share a take-out box this size with my significant other, but there was not enough meat for two, sadly.
Also keep an eye on your bill, there's automatically a 18% service charge. We noticed, thankfully.
Kind of a lackluster, we probably won't be coming back but it's nice to know my options. They need to tell their customers up-front that it will take that long, or we would not have stayed. It needs to be part of the word track when someone orders oxtail and anything that takes longer than 15-20 mins to produce. I'll be trying Yardy Kitchen and Golden Crust...
Read moreThe customer service and food we received today wasn’t great at all. We dined in at the bar and the bartender/server never cracked a smile or seemed inviting. After placing our order and sitting there for a while, we requested some water because he never offered us anything to drink. We ordered the Jerk Chicken dinner with rice n peas, Cabbage and coco bread. The only thing hot on our plate was the rice n peas and the coco bread wasn’t even brought out. As patrons who hate to complain or send food back, we decided to tolerate the chicken however the cabbage was in fact cold. While requesting my missing coco bread I decided to also request fresh cabbage. I kid you not, the guy didn’t return back to the bar with the bread OR cabbage for at least 10-15 min, maybe longer so at this point the rest of our food is even colder than it was when it came out. We requested Togo containers and left. We have never experienced this at the other location, the food is always fresh and hot as if it’s made to order. There was no apology or show of concern at all for the lukewarm food OR the time it took to simply receive fresh cabbage and the missing coco bread. To think we drove 40 min to this location for food we had to come home and...
Read moreI got the jerk chicken pasta, which was tasty. I liked the crispness of the veggies, the fact that there wasn't too much sauce, and it was a decent amount of chicken. The pasta was also definitely cooked to order, as it was still very hot when I got home ~15 minutes after picking up the food. The portion was also very large, I felt like I was getting my money's worth with the pasta.
My only complaint is with the sides situation. The main dishes come with 2 sides, plantains, rice and peas, or cabbage. In my mind I'm thinking, aren't those standard with Jamaican dishes anyway, why can I only choose 2? I was kinda okay with that until the server told me that any extra sides would be $5/side. At that point, it felt like nickle and diming me for standard fare.
While the pasta is delicious, I don't see myself coming back to this spot often. If I want my cabbage, rice and peas, and plantain with my entree, it would be more cost-effective for me to go to my regular spot, which includes those items with every entree for less than what Irie...
