Been living in the area for over half a decade now and this is only the 2nd time I've been here. Sadly, it'll be the last. The first time I went in 2019, it was the same sort of experience. I came in and was dressed in business casual for work, wasn't asked if I was going to dine in, was given a lot of scowls and odd looks, and was quickly scooted out the door. The breakfast I got back then was ample and fairly flavorful.
Today, I came in for lunch after taking the 2nd half of the day off. Once again, no one asked if I was dining in. Although I was standing and waiting to be seated per the sign up front, I was told to go on ahead and order at the counter. Little did I know they were trying to shuffle me out like last time, no doubt because "my man" wasn't there to accompany me. It's become painfully obvious in 7 yrs that women don't eat alone in AL.
Last time, I took my breakfast to go since it was just me and it was pretty clear I wasn't a regular and didn't belong. This time, despite a tall female employee with a blonde/gray pony tail condescending to me because I didn't know if their bread pudding was savory or not (by the way, savory bread pudding exists, so joke's on you), I stayed and ate my meal.
The lady who served my meat was awesome. She was absolutely a peach, as was the lady at the cash register. I don't fault them at all for their counterpart's rude attitude. As for the food, the chicken tetrazzini was over-salted and the greens had no seasoning whatsoever. The okra and cornbread were definitely the highlights of the meal.
It's sad because I sock a heck of a lot money into the area, both myself and the company for which I work. I just get the distinct impression that if you don't come in wearing overalls or sweats, don't even bother. Guess I won't be.
I'm glad to read other reviews with individuals claiming they were treated differently due to not being a regular. Thought maybe I was overreacting, but it seems that's a...
Read moreI’ve lived in Pelham for years and never been to this restaurant. Our friends invited us for breakfast during peak Saturday breakfast hours and I was pleasantly surprised that we were seated immediately. Our waitress came to get our drink orders and brought them promptly- that was about the end of our good service.
As friends do sometimes, we were chatting and catching up and not really studying the menu. We asked the waitress for another minute or two and after about 20 minutes she came back to our table.
We waited for a SIGNIFICANT amount of time for our food. The waitress disappeared, everyone’s drinks were empty, and our food was nowhere to be found. She came back after about 30 minutes and said she was sorry it was taking so long and “they were making our food now” which led us to believe she had forgotten to put our order in when she originally took it. My friend asked for a refill of water which never came.
Our food finally came and there was some confusion. The waitress didn’t know which waffle was plain and which was blueberry (not the end of the world but still) and instead of the scrambled eggs I ordered I was given a cheese omelet, which was upsetting because I didn’t order an omelet nor do I ever eat omelets. Our waitress was very sweet but seemed discombobulated for most of our visit.
Overall the food was good (not great) and I’m not sure if we will return. My husband has been for lunch and said it...
Read moreAbsolutely horrible experience. The service my wife and I received this morning was borderline criminal. Our server was prompt, got our drinks and order quickly, there was another woman there serving tables who just didn't seem to want to be there. She was short with customers and just very dismissive. When our food arrived, we had burnt toast and the grits were gummy. We mentioned them to our server, expressed it was no big deal, we didn't need anything else, just giving feedback. At cashout, the grumpy lady was at the register and when she asked how everything was, my wife repeated that her toast was burnt and grits weren't good but everything else was fine. The woman responded that we never mentioned it to her before so it could not have been that bad, and that none of her other customers complained. We again repeated, we didn't want anything but just to let someone know- she became very agitated, raising her voice at us that we can just get out, we were wrong and trying to get free food, I asked her what her title was, and she screamed that she was the owner, slammed the register drawer and told us to get out before she called the Police. (?) The finishing touch was when she yelled "we'll see y'all next month when you get your check" All this was in front of other customers. As a restaurant professional myself, I was shocked by the...
