Golden Fountain — Restaurant in Pendleton

I've been a loyal patron of Golden Fountain for 34 years. 3 weeks ago I was hired there as a server and instantly overwhelmed with the work load. I'm the only server for half my shifts, and have no others who share the load of what’s usually 10 tables. Working there was so grueling, with Qi Ruan (owner) telling me to be faster even though I was already taking more than my prescribed dosage for Adderall just to keep up. This business offers no legal breaks. Twice I worked 5.5 hours without so much as one 15 minute break. Servers (and back kitchen and dishwashers) never received proper breaks. After 3 weeks of such mistreatment I approached the owner Qi Ruan about my need for a 15 minute break every 4 hours, according to Oregon Law "The law requires workers to take all required breaks in the middle of each four hour (or major part thereof) work segment." I politely and privately explained how hard I was working and that I was dehydrated and holding in my pee, drinking insufficient water, sweat dripping into my eyes and speed walking everywhere in the restaurant just to keep up. She told me "Nobody else complains" to which I replied "That is because everyone working here is your family" (this is a family owned business that uses underage children to provide the majority of back-of-house duties other than cooking. Two underage children work there as young as 11 years old). She told me I was only allowed to take a break if there were no customers present in the restaurant (which never happens) or at the end of my shift when all my duties were completed. She told me "You only work 4 hours" and after explicitly asking her "Do you have any intention of following the law?" Qi Ruan stayed silent and turned her head away from me. Four times I stated "I need a break in the middle of my shift to sit down and urinate and drink water" and each time she would reply "four hours is not that long." Definitely would not recommend dining in. Ordered the appetizer sampler. When it arrived we asked for Hot Mustard. The server said she would be right back. About 4 minutes later we asked another lady for Hot Mustard and Chop Sticks. Roughly 5 min later (the sampler is now cold) we finally got the Hot Mustard but still no chop sticks. We asked again at that point for Chop sticks. Next our entree’s arrive still without chop sticks. We again ask for them at this point. My husband waits another almost 10 minutes for us to say something AGAIN and finally he gets chops sticks. Most of the food is now cold and when he went to try the Lemon chicken it was hard and dry. I couldn’t even stick it with my fork. We let the server know and she tells another lady who comes out and asks what the issue is? When we show her it’s hard she states it’s because it’s the end piece. My husband picks up a center piece to show her it’s also hard and accidentally drops it. When it hit the floor you could hear the sound of it hitting because it’s so hard. The lady seems annoyed and walks away. We get our bill and she took of a WHOLE WHOPPING $3. Anyone who knows myself or my husband knows we always tip a minimum 40%. Tonight we left without tipping because of how bad the service was and then to be disrespected in such a manner when the food...

Been here a couple times food is really good but the two times we’ve ordered takeout we were told 30-40 minute wait which is totally fine but then we show up at the 40 minute mark and still have to wait another 30+ minutes it’s very frustrating. If you can’t make the food in 30-40 minutes tell people so so they aren’t sitting /standing around waiting even longer. Currently sitting and waiting for an order we placed at 5:40 (was told it would be ready at 6:20) and it’s 7:00pm very frustrated.

Update got our food at almost 7:30pm. Waited over an hour past when we were told to be there to get it. It took them almost 2 hours to make our simple order. People seated after we had already been waiting 30 minutes were getting their food way before people waiting for take out. Terrible service. They only took $7 off for compensation, ridiculous. Frustrated doesn’t even begin to describe how we are feeling leaving this place. Could’ve drove out to Hermiston, gotten food, and drove back in the time they...
