I was in town for business and wanted a steak, and decided to give it a shot. Because I was by myself, I was told I needed to sit in the bar area. Not a big deal, as there were tables available not directly at the bar. Took a bit to finally get a server, and was finally asked for a drink order. It took a while to even get a menu after I got my beer. I ordered the 8 oz filet mignon, a side salad with extra ranch, and coconut shrimp. I was never asked how I wanted my steak cooked, which I thought was a bit strange. I asked the server if there was anything she would recommend with my steak, and she recommended the beef tallo. I thought, ok, I'll give it a try. When it came with the steak, it was basically a 1/2 of a bone of something, with fat sitting inside like a greasy slug. Wanting to at least give it a chance, I did spread it on my steak, which I felt was extremely small for an 8 oz steak, and I guess it tasted just like you would expect beef tallo to taste like.... very fatty and greasy. I had to flag down my server to get another beer, even though I was seated about 6 feet from the bar, and could overhear the bartender's conversations. I normally like my salad before my steak (main meal), but everything came all at once. I was not given extra ranch that I asked for originally, and had to ask again. The shrimp was WAY over cooked (very dark brown-almost looked completely burnt, and couln't even tell there was coconut on there, because it was so dark brown-everywhere else I've gotten coconut shrimp, they are golden brown, and you can totally see the coconut), but I forced them down anyway. The steak was medium/well, and I like mine medium/rare. But again, I was never asked how I wanted it cooked, and ate it anyway. Because my salad and dinner came at the same time, by the time I ate the steak and shrimp, they were luke warm at best. It was a Wednesday night, and not overly busy, so the slow service puzzled me. For spending almost $80 on a meal, not including tip, I was really disappointed. They also didn't offer me a desert, or desert menu, which I typically like after a meal, or to take back to my hotel, and eat later. I guess they don't have deserts??? It is a pretty cool looking place... rustic and whatnot, but I won't be returning the next time I'm in town for business. Maybe it was a bad night... BUT WHY? It was a Wednesday. I'm just thankful that it was on my companies dime, and not mine.... will never...
Read moreWe had reservations for 5 people at 5:00 pm on Father's Day. We got there at 4:00 for a drink in the bar. There were just a few people seated in the dining room at that time. An hour later, when we were seated, the dining room was only about 30% filled. Three of our party ordered the beef stroganoff, one the chicken parm, and one the 6-oz filet. The waitress came back to inform our table that the stroganoff was sold out, & so was the chicken parm. At 5:00 on Father's Day?? Several then chose Chicken Cordan Bleu. Also sold out. The steak was cooked perfectly, but very luke-warm, as was the baked potato. Broccolini was seriously overcooked, cold, & underseasoned. The ordered chimmichurri for the steak arrived halfway through the meal after it was asked for. The 2nd glass of wine never arrived, but was on the bill. The lobster mac & cheese did not have garlic bread as described. When asked, the waitress said she'd never seen it served with mac & cheese, and stated that they don't even make garlic bread. She appeared with it when the diner was finished with her meal. The steak bites and mushrooms ordered by the disappointed stroganoff orderers came out very cold and very, very salty. We paid way too much for inferior food and inattentive service. Would not recommend, unless you want an expensive steak that may or not come out sizzling hot,...
Read moreHamley's is something ya gotta see if your in Pendelton. Beautiful interior with master craftsman touches in the stone and wood work. The only reason I give this place 3 stars.
Too bad the food does not live up to this glorious building. Service was decent but I felt a tad rushed. When they serve your salad when you just started your appetizer - they are rushing ya.
They have a decent wine list - but prices are way out of line. Same goes for the food prices.
I went for the the ribeye. One of my favorite cuts. $57 - this better be one hell-o a steak. It was not. I believe it was what is called a "cowboy cut" in some places. Thinner wider steak with loads of fat. Big chunks of fat. Not the normal marbling that gives the ribeye the flavor and keeps it tender while cooking. I don't eat fat - so it piled up on my plate as I cut it off. Darn near 1/4 of the steak was fat. For that price, the fat did not go to waste - I fed it to my dog. LOL
With an appetizer, caesar salad (as one commenter said lots of lettuce and store bought dressing), steak and the overpriced bottle of wine - bill was a little over $150. I don't mind paying this if the meal is worthy. This unfortunately was not.
Go to look, have a beer and enjoy the interior and the...
