I sometimes deliver in the area & am always on the 'lookout' for 'Mom & Pop' restaurants or an Old Fashion Diner, as the generally tend to cook & serve meals that are less commercialized. I spotted Anita's on my Google maps & figured I'd give it a shot. The menu wasn't too overly extensive providing reasonable choices for breakfast selection. Being an avid connisuer of Chicken Fried Steak or it's Northern predicessor ' Country Fried Steak', I chose to try the Country Fried Steak as the waitress informed me that it was a proper fresh cut (never frozen, never processed) steak. ( Unfortunately, the restaurant industry have reverted to the frozen supplied products). Meal result: The Country Fry wasn't badly seasoned & is a real fresh cut steak as was described. The gravy that should compliment the steak, tasted & appeared to be packaged or lousy homemade gravy & ruined the taste of the steak. The steak was enjoyable once the gravy was removed. This is just my suggestion, but if they were to marinate the steaks in buttermilk overnight or at least a minimum of 8 hours & compliment it with ' skillet' gravy, I believe they have a local favorite that would keep them busy. Waitresses were 'cheery' & gave the place an enjoyable atmosphere. Can't comment much about other menu items at this time, hut do plan on return visits and try other items on the menu. I'm certain they'll be enjoyable as well. Sure beats about all of the major food chain restaurants. Hope you give it try and will be anxious to hear what others...
Read moreAnita's Kitchen was the choice of my high school alumni ladies lunch this month. It was my first visit. Anita's is larger on the inside than it looks from the parking lot. It's large enough to accomodate a table full of some of the member's of Anderson High School's class of '65. While the breakfast menu appeared rather ordinary, I opted for one of my favorite lunches--a BLT, served with chips (very good and crispy and I'm not talking about Lay's) and a pickle spear. I ordered my bacon very crispy because I can't stand bacon fat, and I wasn't disappointed. It was cooked to perfection. The only thing I didn't like about my lunch was the fact that Pepsi was the only soft drink on the menu and I am a Coca Cola fanatic. So I chose coffee, which was hot and plentiful. The service was outstanding and the wait staff was super friendly. All my companions were pleased as well and we will definitely...
Read moreThey have a nice variety of foods at good places. The servers are usually pretty friendly and quick, and they have varying sizes of tables for singles or a party. My family and I go there for breakfast and occasionally lunch and their food has been consistently good. Their specials change often and are written up on the walls, but one thing I definitely recommend is that you don't leave without a piece of pie!
The decor is so-so but great if you're interested in history, and the seats are alright but not the most comfortable; the chairs and tables are also a bit crowded in there. I've heard they are getting enough business that they might move to a bigger place, which would be welcome, as it is almost always...
