Extremely unprofessional staff had me asking myself this question âIs there a prerequisite that states young kids who want to work at an ice cream shop have to be unprofessional and act like jerks while doing the menial tasks to run such a shop unsupervised-(greet customer, answer any questions, scoop ice cream, top ice cream, ring up customer)?â 9 Times out of 10, these types of shops have very rude employees and this was no exception. Several staff members were on their phone behind the counter. I donât understand this at all. Phones are so dirty and gross. Iâm giving this place two stars because the hot fudge was actually hot, creamy, and delicious upon first bite. Of course it became way too much and ended up overpowering the sundae. I paid shy of $7 for each sundae which had 3 small scoops in the bowl and I myself ate half and three the rest out. I have never thrown out an ice cream cup that wasnât empty in my life. Honestly, I canât even give a detailed report on the taste of the ice cream bc of the hot fudge overpowering the sundae. I understand the ice cream is homemade so I may go back and try again-with scoops only. I will say the flavor selection is rather large and everyone in my family was able to find something appealing. Ice cream Flavors just werenât a match for the hot fudge. I would have preferred more whipped cream, as the amount they put on was underwhelming. Eating ice cream is usually a happy experience, but this trip to Uncle Edâs has definitely Left me feeling indifferent...
Read moreFrom the second you walk in, you are greeted with an overwhelming fabuloso smell. Ew. We were planning on eating outside anyways. We ordered our ice cream and saw they had chocolates too. I asked for a pound of nonpareils that I had pointed to behind the glass window. We waited (what seemed like forever) for them to weigh and box this chocolate. We pay, we eat our ice cream (which for a âcreameryâ I had high expectations, but there was nothing special about this ice cream, it tastes like the cheap Walmart brand), and we leave. I get home excited to have a nonpareil, I opened the box and realized that's not the ones we wanted behind the glass. These were like tear drop shaped, not round. I was like ok I guess they just make them in different shapes. I took a bite and EW. FABULOSO. EVERY piece in the box tasted like effing fabuloso. Shady how they took so long to get it to us and then I get something I can't even eat. We were already home, 50 minutes away, so there was nothing I could do except warn others by writing this review. So not cool. UGH. that chocolate was friggin expensive...
Read moreAn affordable, decent quality ice cream shop.
While this isn't the 4.5 star quality ice cream the reviews here would suggest, it is decent. There's good value for the money, considering the portion size and price, but Uncle Ed should probably invest in a better refrigeration system. The two ice cream flavors I tried, from two different freezers, were both very soft. And this on a very slow Thursday evening (I was the only customer).
The salty caramel was tasty, but, again, quite soft. The Uncle Ed Special was too unrefined for me. A vanilla base with peanut butter, pretzels, and fudge sauce (I think). The pretzels were too big, and seemed stale. I've had plenty of better ice cream from a random Baskin Robbins. I expect better from any place with "creamery" in its name.
A fine, friendly place to bring the kids, but this isn't really for true ice cream lovers. It does offer a wide assortment of flavors, though, so everybody should be able to find something...
