Cafe Rio Fresh Modern Mexican — Restaurant in Peoria

My fiancé and I went in to the location off of lake pleasant and happy valley road to get dinner on Mother’s Day. We initially tried making a pickup order at 530pm but it wouldn’t let us pick anything up until 7:03pm so we decided to go in. My fiancé sat in line for 45 minutes just to get food. He brings our order out to the car and I check it to make sure everything is right because every single time we come here our order is messed up in some kind of way. We ordered Barbacoa nachos, a two taco meal, 2 chips and queso and two key lime pies. Upon looking at our order the nachos are missing, the pies are completely upside down and the tacos are not tacos it’s a salad. I go inside to have it fixed and some girl with the WORST attitude asked how I could be helped. I told her the situation and how this happens every time we come in and she snapped back “well you see we are busy!” I understand you guys are busy but that does not excuse orders to be wrong and missing or queso to be spilt inside the bag or pies to be upside down. And there was 2 other parties waiting to be refunded because their orders were wrong as well. I handed her my receipt which was wrong as well. They charged us for two salads and we never ordered salads. They made the nachos and refunded us 22 bucks for the salads but never fixed my tacos that were not actually tacos but a salad or did they bother to fix anything else about the spilt and tossed food. I asked for a receipt and she let it print and just walked away no I’m sorry or anything. This happens every single time we come to this specific location. Eat your heart out, Chipotle! Cafe Rio wins, hands down. Despite some off-putting reviews, we went and tried it anyway. For $22, we left with MASSIVE, HEAVY bowls of food! I have no idea what these people are talking about, saying they supposedly spent $50+ for two tacos??? That’s 100% a lie, because the “two taco entree” is like $14 if you selected the more-expensive steak protein—and a small drink sure as F doesn’t cost $36. Sounds more like that reviewer omitted over half of their order info :) SO! Disregard the reviews saying it’s way too expensive. You can come here with $15 and leave with enough food for 2-3 meals. ALSO no idea what the reviews are talking about regarding the employees being rude?? Maybe it’s just the night crew with the sticks up their bums, as we’d gone around lunch time, but the three girls who helped us were ALL very nice. And they don’t mind if you ask for “more” of something!! My bf didn’t know the name of one of the cheeses, but the first girl helped with that and got him the right cheese. The second girl was quick with her work, and remembered exactly what you wanted if you listed multiple toppings for the bowls. And the last girl ringing us up had the biggest smile. So really, I always encourage people to try places for themselves, because Cafe Rio was a great experience for us. It was really fkin good, and both of us ate happy for the entire day with our 2 bowls.

Excellent Food and Service is not too bad either. Since we've "re-discovered" Cafe Rio recently, we've been frequent visitors. We have been on overload with work the last six weeks and after one visit, have eaten here at least 20 times in this short amount of time. We each share the same likes and typically get the same thing every time. The food has been fantastic - seriously, the fire-grilled chicken is so flavorful and every order of tacos has had a sufficient amount of meat. Of Most importance for both of us is the crispness of the tortilla as neither of us like soft, soggy shells - so shout out to the employees who pay attention and listen and respond when Every time we request "extra crisp" tortillas - seriously - THANK YOU employees for your diligence and attentiveness to our request - every time - Except once (two nights ago, and it ruined the meal, excessively soggy tortilla) - thus, 4⭐s on Service and we are hoping it was a one off. But overall, for the ridiculous number of times we've eaten here (usually take-out) our orders have a been prepared as requested and everything is always packed well and every order has been correct and nothing forgotten (unlike Chili's across the street).
