This is a review from 6 years ago that I've decided to edit to bring awareness to the business: I've been supporting this taco shop since I moved to Peoria in 2018, and I’ve invited many family members and friends here over the years. It’s become our go-to spot for taco nights! I regularly order the family pack — plus extra tacos now that my family is growing — and everyone especially loves the cabeza tacos. One thing I’ve always appreciated is how they used to give me one 8oz container for salsa with my order. It made it so much easier for my family to top our tacos without dealing with multiple small containers. However, on my last three visits, when I asked for the same 8oz container, the cashier handed it to me but made sure to point out, “the family pack does not come with the salsa container.” As a loyal customer who has supported this business for years and continually brings new people in, that comment feels dismissive. It may seem like a small thing, but how a business treats its regulars matters. There’s an old restaurant industry lesson called the “free pickle” analogy — it’s about the power of small gestures that make customers feel valued. A simple, thoughtful extra — like an 8oz salsa container — can go a long way in building loyalty and good will. I’ll keep coming back because the food is great, but I do hope the staff is reminded that pleasing loyal customers isn’t just good manners — it’s good business.

Coming from socal perspective this taco shop is amazing. The sheer type, quality, and quantity of free sides/toppings for self serve is also amazing. I cannot say no to free guac and they leave tubs of it on self serve. I dont know how this place stays in business with their reasonable taco prices and unlimited sides. If this was so cal people would be making a run for the hills with a whole tub. And they even 1 upped socal by offering gloves like they do at boiling crab/crabhut so you can have a clean and non spicy eye rub at the end of your meal. So now on to the actual meat and entree review. The al pastor flavor is on point, juicy, but today when used in a large quantity at once such as in a quesadilla, was a lil salty. I just topped it with guac, dipped it into the onion cilantro and it balances out like a mexican quesadilla guac pizza. The street taco version i had before i ate the quesadilla is perfect. They have on offer both corn and flour tortillas if you have difficulty digesting corn tortillas. Cabeza is perfectly seasoned, the asada today was also perfectly seasoned but a lil dry however nothing a lil guac cannot take care of. If you are in town i highly recomend this location. Avoid the downtown location due to traffic and bad parking. These tacos are a do not miss. Eat the self serve guac before other people find out n they gotta ration it.

Tacos Califia Is a limited choice taqueria with pretty good food. As you walk in and wait in line the smell is pretty awesome with the cashier taking your order in either English or Spanish. There are three main meats to choose from, carne asada, pastor and pollo. Beef, pork marinated, chicken. They also have beef head but it looks like it was an afterthought. Menus are on poster board and prices start at $1.75 per taco. On Monday and Wednesday there's an all you can eat taco fest for $17 but we didn't see that as being a reasonable price. Ask for the tacos de pastor con pina (pineapple) you won't be sorry! Three choices of salsa in plastic bottles will find their way to your table. The red one is not ketchup, as our Puerto Rican comrade had hoped, but the hottest of the three salsas. We preferred the green for it's all over flavor and heat.. the wait from order to dispensing was about 15 minutes, which seemed like a little long when you considered how many people were in the kitchen working and how many customers were in the taqueria at 9pm. The tortillas are served in single layers. We usually prefer double but these were ok. The guacamole on the tacos is creamy and flavorful. No complaint about that. We tried the Jamaica and the Horchata, the Jamaica had a much better fresh taste. All in all it was good, but I would prefer more options of meats.

I usually go to the location off of 99th in Avondale but today we were closet to this location and decided to swing by for Taco Tuesday. We went to the counter, ordered, and paid in cash. When she said the price I kinda questioned it in my head but my partner said maybe they don’t do taco Tuesday here. I thought that was odd so I went online as if I was gonna place an order for pickup for this location. Online it says “todays special” $2.23 Tacos. Usually they are $2.99. So I went up to the gal who we placed the order with. She said they don’t do Taco Tuesday at that location anymore. I guess next time I’ll just order it online for pick up and dine in with my to go boxes to get the taco Tuesday prices. This just irritated me a little bit because I felt like it was wrong but I have not been to that location in a long time so It could very much be the case. Then I continue to observe the receipt and notice I was charged a 2.8% card fee even though I paid in cash. They boast all of their signage and register “an incentive for cash paying customers” no card fee. So at this point I'm just irritable, yes it was only 0.67 but it is the principal. I just felt I was bench charged wrong for the entire order. I went back up to the gal to let her know my confusions. She did apologize and said the Card charge was her mistake and she could go in and manually change it and give me my 0.67 back. I told her it was okay and I didn’t want it back it was just the principal. I also continued to explain my irritation about the Taco Tuesday prices being online, she tried to explain it to me as the meat prices went up so its only an online special now. I guess I will have to go back to the 99th location on Tuesday to see if it is just a store wide thing or company thing. Problems aside, the meat portions were much skimpier at this location & the quality wasn’t as good. I did like the environment of this location better, felt kore cozy and private. But because of everything else I will certainly not be returning to...
