A new Mexican restaurant. Food was good but not hot temp-wise. Beans, rice, lettuce, steak, sour creme, etc all in one flour tortilla served on a wax paper sheet in a plastic basket. No dishes here and plastic disposable silverware to eat with. No beverage refills, all drinks are bottles or cans unless you want lemonade or a fruit drink. No diet drinks available. No ice water available, only bottled water at extra cost. My burrito stuck to the wax paper, a mess trying to separate it for eating without eating waxed paper. The ambient temp in the restaurant is hot unless you eat in the rest rooms where the air conditioning was a welcome relief. The heat from the open grill is just too much for the air conditioner to keep up. I have to wonder about the sanitary condition of meat on a pole hanging by the grill in the open air that the cook cuts meat for the various dishes. Protection from flying insects? Temperature regulation? Tables and chairs are minimalistic, and unpadded wooden seats, no booths. Very clean everywhere including the rest rooms. Very pleasant staff. Price for two to eat? Just over $18 without a tip. Way too expensive for the food received and the lack of ambiance. There are much better Mexican restaurants in the area, better food, and...
Read moreWe haven't found a great Mexican restaurant in Peoria since arriving from California last year, but I gave Pericos an extra food star because the staff was so great and they have been the closest to a vegetarian California style burrito. I had to take away that extra star though because they don't serve chips and salsa. You can't even order it. So strange.
I cannot figure out why we haven't found a Mexican restaurant yet that has a salsa bar either? No chunky salsa or picot here, only blended salsa at Cukos...I give Pericos a nod for at least serving green and red hot sauce at the table. It made our burritos which were pretty bland without meat since there was so much rice and not much seasoning on either the rice or the beans. Many Mexican restaurants we've been to don't even serve hot sauce so I'll take it! I'm just pleased their veggie burritos didn't have cooked squash and mushrooms in them like one place we tried!
All in all, I would come back. My daughter liked...
Read moreDon't delay and eat here today!!!! Man have been sleeping on this joint!! They are sandwiched in-between Verizon and Arby's. The restaurant was exceptionally clean upon walking inside. The pretty little lady who took the order was on point. Got my steak and chicken taco order to go. Remember when you were a kid and you always wanted that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow? This right here was it! Once I opened the box to smash the detail and care that came into the way the food was packaged really surprised me. We haven't even begun to get to the fresh taste of the mouth watering steak that was perfectly done and loaded. I'm talking you going sink the ship with all the meat. Protein of champions the way they loaded them bad boys up!! Fresh cut cilantro and onion and throw on some of that fresh made hot sauce and them taste buds was singing!! One final note it didn't take long for them to get me my order and if I could throw em 10 stars I...
