Went here based off of online reviews. Husband and I were seated, server came immediately for our drink order. Inquired about the Moscato wine, was told it was only served by the bottle. Two bottle sizes, small (2 glasses) for $15 or large bottle for $20. We opted for the large bottle. We were then given chips and salsa. Then placed our order. Husband got the salmon and rice dish with a side of pintos. I had a unique order being that I am trying to follow a vegan diet, but I am flexible enough to know that's impossible to do when eating out. That being said, I tried to construct a meal as close to vegan as possible. Ordered black bean nachos, guac, pico de gallo, jalapenos,no cheese, no sour cream. Asked server if it was possible to get the grilled onions and peppers I saw came with another dish, on my nachos. I was told no, the kitchen won't allow changes to the menu. Hmmmm, found that to be odd for that minor of a request, and the fact that I was changing the menu with my order of black bean nachos. Order placed anyway. Started on the complimentary chips and salsa that was previously placed on the table. Took a bite into a chip-lacked crunch. So I tried a few more hoping one would be crisp. They were not crisp at all. Had a stale flavor to them and salsa lacked flavor. I was done with the chips and since I ordered nachos which were made from those chips I decided to catch the server and change my order. Good she hadn't placed it yet. So I changed to a burrito, same ingredients as the nachos, just rolled up in a burrito with refried beans on the side. After a few minutes, server came to table to share how she had to explain to the kitchen what I wanted, they didn't understand because there was a language barrier. So hopefully they will do my plate right.🤔 After about 20 minutes of waiting for our food, it arrived. Why it took that long for salmon and rice and a bean burrito, I'll never know...they weren't busy. Husband's salmon was ok. Nothing fabulous to have him want to come back. My plate, well the soft tortilla ended up having the same stale flavor as the chips! Don't know where they store them but something needs changing because they were nasty tasting. The black beans had no flavor to them whatsoever. My burrito was covered in mole sauce 😝, I did not try the rice that came with the dish. Black beans I ordered on the side were different. Maybe had a slight cinnamon flavor to them? Was hard to tell. Would have to try them again...but that won't happen. We will not go back because in our opinion the food sucked. Then to top it off, when we got the bill, the $20 wine that we ordered....we were charged $24.95 for... When we pointed it out to the server we got " oh yeah, I'm sorry, the manager said it was $24.95"... well at that point, shouldn't you communicate that to us? Instead of blindsiding us with a different price on the bill? And no offer to get the price changed to honor what we were initially told. So to make a long story short, we will not be back. Food was awful,...
Read moreSo, it's not worth your money. From the outside this place gives off an Italian vibe. We figured it said international, so it'll probably have a good food selection. We were wrong, so wrong. This is, in fact, a Mexican restaurant. And not a very good one at that. The salsa was very bland but their cheese dip was pretty tasty. They were out of chile rellanos and refried beans. Both their burrito sauce and enchilada sauces were rather sweet tasting making the dishes rather difficult to eat. The fried chicken chimichanga literally tasted like lasagna. (Wait, maybe that's where the International part comes into play? 🤔) Unfortunately the tacos really weren't anything special to write home about either. The black beans that were used as a refried beans replacement had no flavor at all, not even salt. They were literally just beans in their juice heated up. The rice was a little under done and tasted like the Lipton's chicken flavored rice. It was rather thick in consistency and stuck together, not like normal Mexican rice.
I'm not sure if they were having some type of electrical issue, but the lights kept flickering on and off and then halfway through our meal half of the restaurant went into darkness. It almost felt like they were trying to close even though they normally stay open until 8pm.
All in all, the price we paid vs the quality of food made this trip not worth it at all. For 4 basic meals, 3 non alcoholic drinks, and an order of cheese dip our bill was $75 and that's not including the tip. We certainly won't be back.
It now makes sense as to why we were the only...
Read moreThis isn't completely a review as much as it is a notice of their hours which are as of now, July 2023, are very limited. In the past this was my very favorite Mexican style restaurant. Food so good they ruined me for every other Mexican place I went to after. So wanting to go back I've been trying on and off for like 2 years. As it is now they seemed to be closed Monday and Tuesday and trying to go there for lunch today they no longer seem to be serving lunch at all. All I saw on the door, hours listed were 4pm to 9 pm on the days they are open. Yet another time I was by there between about 8 and 8:30 pm on a Thursday evening, and they were already closed, chairs stacked on tables. I have no idea how these very limited hours are good for business, today every other place in the area seemed packed. I give up, unless I go down for dinner. Maybe the food has gotten bad and they aren't doing enough business but this seems like typical Petersburg, nothing there seems to run correctly. To make it a bit worse, this isn't the nicest area to begin with and while checking to see the hours posted on the door, I was approached by some loon looking for money, which is a typical occurrence...
